4 of us went last night.
2 had the "special" Crab (inludes wine) and 2 of us had something new and interesting. A fish they called Pump fish.
It was brilliant all round; the crabbies raved and were fullup at the end
The Pump fish (whatever that is) was most unusual, and extremely tasty. Even the traditional veg accompaniment was cooked to perfection - not dried and boring, but dressed in oil, garlic and seasoning.
The bill for 4 (each had starter, mains as above, and not dessert or coffee) came to €81 plus tip.
I really hope this restaurant does well, and manages to keep their prices sensible.
Please do make the effort to turn off the main "hill" and keep them going.

We tried this place last week, My husband really loves fish but me not so much, for starters my husband had a prawn cocktail which was the best by far he has had in CVO, it came on a plate with prawns on a bed of salad with a light sauce sprinkled with herbs, I had the fish soup which was quite thick and very flavoursome my hubby had the turbot for main which is served as half a fillet but hubby loving his fish asked for the whole turbot which he said was excellent and fantastic value for money. As Im not over keen on fish I had the spare ribs which I must admit where a bit too salty for me but the veg was fresh and not the soggy mess that is normally served up in other restaurants, the portions were very big but hubby still managed homemade apple pie and ice cream which I tasted and it was delicious. Overall it was a lovely evening the owner is a very pleasant young man who also works in Bistro 72 during the day he is a hardworking young man trying to make a go of things, he runs the restaurant with his wife in the kitchen and himself as front of house, as they are off the beaten track they are quiet I would urge you all to try and hopefully this restaurant will get off the ground as I think it is just what cvo needs the food was great and I would highly recommend it.

loretta..... I second that, it needs people to go and try it and to keep going back, a really good restaurant. We will be going next time we are out again.

Brumas is certainly on our list to try but one question " do they really mena Turbot ".
This is a very expensive cold water flat fish and I have never seen it in the Algarve.
It could of course come from a fish farm.
Often in restaurants you will be offered Channel bass ( corvinha ) not my favourite it is a big good value fish a bit oily for our taste or Carapau , sometimes sold as mackerel ( this is carvalha ).
Carapau is a different fish known in the UK as Shad or Horse mackerel and one which is not that popular as real mackerel is superior in taste and texture.

I asked hubby he said he has tried turbot twice, once in Cornwall and another time in a restaurant in London he said it tasted the same as what he had before. It was a flat dark skinned diamond shaped fish.... He said it was delicous. They also had shark , shellfish and fish cataplana on the menu.

Sounds like a one of the types of Sole, Turbot is a big fish usually served as steaks rather than filets.

Must give this place a try on our next visit.

I've had whole turbot before in good UK restaurants & it is as loretta describes. But it is true that turbot is very rarely available in restaurants here & is usually corvina or similar which isn't anywhere near as good. If they are serving real turbot in this restaurant then it is definitely going on my 'must visit' list.

4 of us were looking at the outside menu one evening on our last visit, when Bruno (from the picture) came over and showed us 3 fish on a platter, he informed us that they were fresh and proceeded to open their mouths (or gills ?) and said if the fish wasn't fresh you could tell by (he lost me at this point as I have no idea what a fresh fish is supposed to look like) the colour of the flesh. He definitely said one of the fish he showed us was Turbot, biggish, flattish, darkish fish if memory serves (it doesn't always
)he said it was for 2 people and around €22.
we had already eaten that evening and just went up for a look but we were impressed and hopefully might make it later this month. It is a pity that's its that 50 metres off the beaten track. He really could do with a sign down on restaurant hill (something like Cattleman but with fish of course) advertising his restaurant.

A friend and I went there at the end of September.
Neither of us are big eaters, so we left the choice down to Bruno. (after all, we were on holiday and taking it easy!)
For starters he brought us out large prawns, cooked in garlic and lemon, it was delicious. Just enough for a light starter.
For mains he choose dourada (I think it was anyway), cooked perfectly, served with salad and potatoes and fresh veg. The portions were very generous and I must admit to being slightly embarrassed at leaving so much on my plate! But, others with bigger appetites would not be let down - a true feast on a plate.
And I even had my arm twisted into creme caramel for desert.
We were recommended and tasted 3 different white wines, two of which we really liked and managed to finish both bottles!
Returning to Carvoeiro on 23rd December for a week, and will deffinately be going back. (as long as the restaurant is open during the winter period of course).
I agree with the comment earlier, about having a board on or near the main road to advertise the restaruant. I knew Bruma's was around there, but several evenings I walked up and down the hill and I didn't see/realise exactly where it was.

Regarding having a sign or menu at the bottom of the hill on the main drag, I asked Bruno and he said he has to apply for a licence from the local council and they keep putting so many obstacles in his way and red tape but he is still trying to get one put up!

Thought we would try Brumas on our recent visit but it was closed. Looked like it had closed down?
