poco partido villa Martinho

Post by charlie632 »

Hello, My family and i are going to be staying at Casa Martinho Villa in Poco partido in September. Has anyone stayed there or know Poco Partido?
We have a hire car as been told we would need one for that area. Local shops/restaurants? Don't mind travelling either. Would love to find a high star seafood restaurant as my son and i both love sea food.
look forward to your kind replies.

Hi

See reviews below from Trip Advisor and Eat Algarve:-

Rui Marisqueira
Rua do Comendador 27, Silves, Portugal

“The best seafood in the Algarve - unmissable!”
Date of review: 23 Oct 2010
This restaurant is a real hidden gem and we can't recommend it highly enough. The location is charming, the staff knowledgeable and welcoming and the fish and seafood absolutely stunning. Don't miss the Stone Bass and the cataplanas, what a revelation! It was so good on Wednesday we are taking friends back there today

The best fun you will have in a restaurant!
This was the first seafood restaurant that I went to in portugal many years ago. I have revisited on every possible occasion. It has its own style and ambience that I have not seen in any other establishment. It can cost a small fortune if you go the whole hog, but can be value for money if you choose carefully. Me, I just go the whole hog and enjoy every valuable moment. Make sure you also go for the Vino Verdi - it is excellent and goes so well with the sea food. Oh - make sure you book - you do NOT want to be part of the "list of hope" pinned to the door. It is so much more fun being part of the action rather than queuing outside. I recommend the seafood platter - expensive, but you get a taste of everything. But every single dish I have had there has been superb. I gave it full marks for ambience - it is just so different to everything else I have visited - trestle tables, everyone squashed in together, bits of shell fish flying around the room - just the best fun you can have!

It really is the best!!!!

It's on the cutthrough route from Lagoa to Vale Centianes, (avoiding Carvoeiro one way system)

The one end is a fairly notorious, what counts round here as a council estate........very small and fairly innocuous by english council estate standards.

Further on, towards your villa are 2 or 3 reasonable restaurants, but there are no local shops. You'll need to go back, past the estate, back on the main road to Intermarche.

Carvoeiro, Centiannes, and the main restaurants and beaches are in the opposite direction to Poco Partido.
You will need a car for the duration of your stay

Dont allow yourself to be put off. Nowhere around here isnt nice, and I'm sure that you will have a lovely holiday.

Better to know than not. A forum search of poco partido would have revealed all you need to know about the villa's locality.

Enjoy your holiday. 8)

We stayed at the villa in 2005 and enjoyed it. Whilst some will say that was a long time ago, I will still provide some more information in next day or so - about to go to a meeting

Hi Charlie

We stayed at Villa Martinho for a week in early July in 2005.It's a nice villa which had everything we needed. At that time we'd stayed in various villas around cvo and it was probably the best for size, standard etc. I seem to remember it had 3 bedrooms, although there were only 2 of us and we used the bedroom on the first floor. The pool is down some steps and a good size. The property is approached up a track and had a nice garden with grass, which is a plus when it's hot. I seem to remember there is open ground behind the villa (beyond the pool). The villa grounds are quite open so you'll need to take care with locking the villa if you're sitting round the pool but that's just common sense (as you'll see from other posts on this forum).

The day we left the neighbour offered us some fruit and I think at the time it was his brother or brother in law who owned the villa.

We had a car which you will need. We tended to eat in cvo although ate at Nunos, which is fairly close, once. The track to the villa is by a restaurant (? Imperial or maybe that's what it used to be called) which we didn't go in (I don't know why not) but I ate in it last September with a friend and we enjoyed our meal. The villa is convenient for the supermarket

We used to go to the beaches at Marinha and Albandeira, but that's where we'd been previously and subsequently and is the reason we love the area. Its easily accessed from the N125/motorway and has good access to cvo.We didn't use taxis but I supect they would be about 5 euros from cvo.

On the downside I got bitten by mossies on the first night (a frequent event in my life probably because I'm fair skinned) so go prepared preferably with plug in devices etc.

Hope you have a lovely time

Hi Charlie
As promised an update following our two weeks at the Casa Martinho.

Pretty much all of what CEH says still applies. The villa is large and roomy with most of the amenities and necessities of life provided (except for pint glasses which I’ve now remedied). Plenty of sun loungers and room to spread out both in the sun and in the shade which was a blessing as temperatures were in the high thirties most of the time we were there. By the way don't be fooled like my wife when following instructions from the airport. When you go up the track next to the restaurant and take the left fork you first see a semi-derelict farmhouse which is NOT Casa Martinho! Casa Martinho is the next one along.

Only downsides were, one, the plumbing, both bathrooms initially out of order when we arrived filling toilet cisterns to flush with a bucket not my idea of ‘style’. We did get the downstairs one fixed but upstairs remained a disaster area with a temperamental shower and sink. We did mention to out rep so I’m hoping that they’ll get it sorted before you arrive in September.

Second more minor problem was the pool. The pool itself is great but watch it if you’ve small kids in your party as it gets deep really quickly. It gets full of dead insects really quickly and a ten minute trawl for dead bodies before entering is a little tedious. Also the pool area is really enclosed son with the hot sun, you really need to watch yourselves when swimming. My son got a nasty sunburn second day so we all had pool t shirts from then on which helped. Also the tiles are uneven around the pool so again be careful.

Other issue we had was the cleaning of the place. Not I hasten to add that it was poor in fact quite the reverse. Normally I'd expect a cleaner to come in for half an hour or so once or twice a week. Our cleaner came in everyother day (including the day before we left) for around two hours, which we found a little intrusive. I understand that the lady is actually the sister of the owner so I assume thatshe's more of a vested interest in the place than is usual. We did mention to the rep so she might rein back a bit. Also the pool man/gardner keeps odd hours. Sometimes he was still pottering around at 10.30pm by which time it's good and dark so how he could see.....?

Big plus points are the restaurant at the bottom of the drive. They do excellent steaks and fish so stops you worrying about having to drive some nights, plus they are happy to order you a taxi into the village (€4.50).

Second plus, it’s very peaceful with only locals living nearby. Any strangers coming up the drive are greeted by the sound of all the neighbourhood dogs barking (all very friendly I might say), so you are unlikely to be bothered at all. Certainly we had no security issues and if the 'council estate ' referred to is rough than I shudder to think what some of the esates in Britain could be described as.

The Intermarche supermarket will cater for all needs and is open 9-9 seven days a week. You might consider buying electric fans for the bedrooms from there as they are only €15.00 and do help a good nights sleep.

Carvoeiro itself is pretty much explained elsewhere in the forum so I'll not elaborate too much other than to say drinks and eats in the squre are expensive as you'd expect but there are plenty of other bars and restaurants to choose from. Parking is a bit of a nightmare in the centre but if you are patient you can usually get in somewhere.

All in all a good base from which to either laze around or explore the Algarve further.

If you want any further specifics, let me know.
