Re: Tap water
We use a Brita water filter jug and have done so for a couple of years now
and have never had a problem without the filter the tap water doesn`t
taste very good when you make tea or coffee.

Re: Tap water
We use tap water to cook with plus teas, coffees and for teeth cleaning and have never had a problem in 10 years. The water is safe but the mineral content is not what your body is likely to be use to so for drinking water always use bottled water. Don't bother with small bottles just get the 5 litre size - they are so cheap it's a no brainer.

Re: Tap water
We also use just tap water for teas and coffees, cooking also brushing teeth. I have also drank straight from the tap with no effect but we tend to buy the large bottles purely for drinking.

Re: Tap water
The tap water in the apartment is perfectly safe to drink so I assume that's the case anywhere in CVO on mains water but I think the chemicals they add to it make it taste foul, we always use bottled water even for tea making & cooking as you can still taste them in the tea, we have friends who stay who don't mind it at all. I know in the UK we would sometimes get quite a strong chemical taste in our tap water but it was nowhere strong as in Carvoeiro. The bottled water here really is so cheap we like the Pingo Doce water but most of them are very good.

We also use tap water for cooking but for every thing else we use bottled water.
Re: Tap water
The other reason to have bottled water is that you put the bottle in the fridge to get cold drinking water rather than tepid out of the tap. However I would have no hesitation in refilling the bottle from the tap and putting that in the fridge if I couldn't get to the supermarket - incapable of getting into the car let alone driving it
Re: Tap water
Same here, we use bottled water for tea, some days the tap water can taste awful
Re: Tap water
Safe? This is the EU, if it was not safe there would be hell to pay. We are not in a third World Country here. However Beer is cheaper than Bottled Water so you should be fine and Merry!!!! Have been drinking the Water from the Tap for the past six years as I have to pay for it, no problems at all and the sand one occasionally gets helps with the Digestion! Much safer than the Water I drank in London which was passed through at least eight people.Reggie wrote:Can anyone tell me if the tap water is safe to drink in CVO? I've read conflicting views on other sites.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Tap water
The local tapwater has a strong mineral/chlorine taste.......makes tea taste disgusting.
I wash and clean my teeth in tapwater, but for everything else bottled.
Buy 4, 5 litre bottles in a pack from the big supermarkets, and its very cheap....the same price for 4 that you pay for 1 five litre bottle in my local Spar shop in Centiannes

Re: Tap water
I use tap water for cooking if boiling, brushing teeth, and most importantly for Canadians - ice cubes! Use bottled for everything else.
Re: Tap water
No problems apart from the occaisional " chemical " taste, usually worse in the summer.
We switch to bottled water for drinks, tea and coffee when this happens.

Re: Tap water
Tap water is safe to drink but does not taste nice - especially when used to make tea or coffee - due to treatment chemicals. Strangely the taste seems to go away when we make ice with it. We had a new fridge/freezer installed during the winter that has an ice maker and chilled water tap that is fed from the kitchen water supply. An internal filter makes the chilled water taste OK so I would guess a water filter on the kitchen tap would also work.
