O Algar - Benagil
O Algar - Benagil
Sorry Folks - just finished a post and should have included this!!!!
Just come back from 12 days in CVO & had a fab time
As mentioned in my previous post - we went to our fave Restaurant (A Gale) & had a great meal (as always!!!).
However - I never mentioned another absolutely fab restaurant that we used to go to all the time - O'Algar at Benagil.
I've not seen too many people mention this place (i may be wrong with that, so don't shoot me!) - but we do really like it.
We used to go to this place every time we came to CVO, but for some strange reason we havn't been on our last few trips - will certainly be going next time we're in CVO - its really good.
Really need to be back in CVO - sat in an office in Manchester & guess what - yep - its raining - I need a lottery win!!!!!!!!!!

Re: O Algar - Benagil
I think we went here when we stayed near benagil. Im really bad at remembering all the restaurants and pubs because it was 2 years ago lol, is it the restaurant that has really good seafood?
Re: O Algar - Benagil
Hi Scottishstacey,
Yep, it does do very good seafood (& very good Portugese steak as well!!!) - it is the one that is on the corner as you go up the hill from the beach (going away from CVO). There is another small restaurant just beneath it, but I'm not too sure what that one is called! There is another restaurant at the top of that hill (I think that is called O'Literal - or something like that!!!) - we had a meal in there a couple of years ago & that was very good as well.
Wish I could go there for a meal tonight!! - Beans on toast instead, looking at the rain in sunny old Manchester - great!!!!!
Cheers,

I have to agree, O'Algar is our favourite restaurant and we love sitting out on the terrace soaking up the view and the vinho!
The food has always been consistently excellent and Carlos and his sons are always friendly and still remember us even if we have been away for 12 months (although we have been going for 12 years).
I would recommend it to anybody who wants great food and a fabulous location.

I agree - very good food - The Restaurant below is Casa Velha do Pescador.

Re: O Algar - Benagil
i love O'Algar, some great mains are the prawn kebab or the portuguese steak, although i find their choice of starters not great. Lovely location and great views on the terrace.
O'Litoral at the top of the hill is equally good, great menu, great view, open from lunch and a great host, you always get a free port when you finish.
i've been told there's another restuarant on the other side of the hill, on the restaurant map it seems to be called Jacob but that's not the name i remember.

O litoral is where we had the best fish lunch in all our visits to the Algarve. Did not break the bank either.
We do however tend to avoid the area once it get busy due to the Russian roulette the northern portuguese drivers play on the hill.
Right of way seems to mean nothing to them.

Re: O Algar - Benagil
Is Benegil safer to park than Canerios?
