In weston Super mare the local council funded the moulding of a number of life size donkeys.
Local schools, charities, shops, artisits etc painted them and they were put on display in one of the outdoor shopping spaces.
Within 48 hours the local pond life had destroyed some and damaged many others.
The council had to remove them and ask shops, cafes etc if they would display them .
What is it about Portugal that displays such as the elephants and bears can be left for months without any apparent damamge and vandalism and yet this seems to be impossible in the UK.???

I was in Antwerp two years ago and they had more than their fair share of said elephants. Perhaps some have migrated to CVO? :D

We are not in CVO at the moment but they are most probably on loan from the German guy who runs the Quinta dos Vales winery in Estombar. We went to an open day there when we were last over, and the "statues" are everywhere. He advertises the winery as "wine and art". The open days are great, with lots of free wine and music in a great setting.

Bye Bye, little elephants (Looking at the web cam, they are being removed).
It's a pity as I'm out for a week starting 14th May & I was looking forward to seeing them in the square. So the only one's I'm likely to see are pink ones!!

I still say that they should honour the portuguese donkey and do some fiberglass ones to be painted! They're also almost extinct around the Algarve!... And some of them even kicking with their back legs in the air! That would be fun to watch! (And even paint!). Maybe an order in Quinta dos Vales, where they have all those painted plastic bears, would do the job!...
