Hemingways
Re: Hemingways
For moaning expats try Rosas in Sesmarias thats where wannabe expats hang out and moan about expats and prices in the Village.
as For Hems
Best Pint of Guinness in the Algarve
Great VFM snack menu try the Cheesy Garlic Bread or a cheeky Burger
First Place in CVO to offer free WiFi in CVO
If you have any problems with you property just go in and ask and you will receive good advice on who to use and more importantly who not to use.
They show all sport not just football
Fun Friendly Staff
and last but not least no moaning EMM

Re: Hemingways
No it isn't. You clearly haven't been - nor, with that attitude, would you be welcome. It is for all forum members (ex-pats and holidaymakers) to meet up for a friendly chat and a drink and get to know each other.Ernie wrote:For moaning expats try Rosas in Sesmarias thats where wannabe expats hang out and moan about expats and prices in the Village.

Re: Hemingways
With regard to "moaning expats", it seems to me that most of the moaning and wingeing seems to come from the part-timers and tourists.
Just browse through this forum and you will see what I mean, ... and you will see that most of the useful topics and advice comes from the expats.

Re: Hemingways
I will clearly have to have a rethink as obviously life in Portugal is all about english/irish beer, bar snacks and Sky television.
What have I been missing

Re: Hemingways
EMM, no lifes not all about English / Irish beer...but it is sometimes..some people very close to me have the same attitude, its almost an inverted snobbery about "belonging" they WILL NOT go anywhere associated with tourists (they endure expats
) they make a point of wearing every bit of clothing they own when its less than 20c, just to prove that they "live" in Carvoeiro and as such dont really warm up till May...oh and eat in the village? no chance, not even for a great view of the sea (after all you have seen the sea once) they prefer to "find" little cafes in the middle of bleedin nowhere so they can feel at one with the locals!!! who incidently, if they had a pot to piss in, would be eating in the same places as the tourists and looking at the view.
But I am sure thats not you, but as I mentioned on an earlier post go to the bar by Poco Partido? or if you walk up the stairs next to the Irish Times there is a local bar there also

Re: Hemingways
I have nicknamed it "the jawbreakers arms" its rough but really funny, last time I was in there was a very old man who had a physical disability (one leg was about 12 inches shorter than the other) well his "job" was to mend fishing nets. I was sat outside when all hell broke loose inside...he had left a hole in one of the nets and a local fisherman had hung him on the wall in his net.. you had to be there
Re: Hemingways
everyone will have their own pet favorites/hates......O'Barco(arrival day only), Irish Times for breakfast hangover cure, HW's for good prices and to chill,Sullys for late night drink,Mexihalo to meet old friends, never Roundup, Bradys,Black Stove...each to their own

Re: Hemingways
Emm, I notice on the A22 topic that you say you look at other expat forums too; according to your membership on here you've been a member for 28 months which means you average 85 posts per month just on here, then there are the other forums so you seem to be enthusiastic and as we see on here you have pretty strong opinions.EMM wrote:I will clearly have to have a rethink as obviously life in Portugal is all about english/irish beer, bar snacks and Sky television.

People make choices about how to spend their time, and their money, and naturally folk don't all make the same choices; you seem to have your life pretty well sorted out for you which is good, but I don't see the necessity then to bash other people for making the choices that they think are good for them.
I couldn't spend the time that you seem to on a computer, nor would I drive to Silves to pay over the odds for logs but I understand that that's what you choose to do because you enjoy it, so please continue to tell us what and how you do what you like to do but do please try to stop being patronising and dismissive to folk that choose to follow a different path

Re: Hemingways
Obviously how or where people spend their time any money is up to them, and just because I do not share the view of others does not make my views or anyone elses opinions any less valid than theirs.
Rest assured you will not find me voicing my views in Hemmingways or any similar place in Carvoeiro.
