Easy Jet charges for oversize luggage.
Easy Jet charges for oversize luggage.
EJ will now charge you £40 /item if they discover that your cabin baggage is oversized or you have an extra case/bag at the boarding gate.
Re: Easy Jet charges for oversize luggage.
that's better than Ryanair, I was in Paris last week & bought a couple of golf clubs, they were in a thin box, the man at the gate declared it as my second bag and charged me €70!

The strange thing is I must have flown maybe 500 times and never even got close to exceeding the weight allowanceEMM wrote:EJ will now charge you £40 /item if they discover that your cabin baggage is oversized or you have an extra case/bag at the boarding gate.

I have flown Virgin Atlantic and BA this year and they are charging for over sized/over weight hand luggage.
Re: Easy Jet charges for oversize luggage.
These Airlines publish their size & weight limits - if people cannot be bothered to check these, or decide to flout them, then tough luck if they get charged
Re: Easy Jet charges for oversize luggage.
I agree totally with Sam. All airlines publish their rules and charges and you should take this into account when booking. If you don't like the charges then use a different carrier. I prefer having a cheap ticket with the airlines' income being derived from discretionary charges rather than the old alternative of a higher priced ticket for everybody without any charges on top.
For our flights to/from the Algarve my wife & I carry one flight bag each and know that things such as laptops and handbags have to go into that when boarding. The flight bags were chosen to be within spec.
Don't forget that anything you carry on your person doesn't count so wear a coat with poacher's pockets stuffed full plus wear all your clothes and you shouldn't have a problem.

easyjet have no weight restrictions on cabin baggage- only normal size restrictions, which is fair enough. how big do some passangers think the overhead bins are?EMM wrote:EJ will now charge you £40 /item if they discover that your cabin baggage is oversized or you have an extra case/bag at the boarding gate.

sunman, did you have another bag beside the golf clubs? I would have assumed that golf clubs (although thinthat's better than Ryanair, I was in Paris last week & bought a couple of golf clubs, they were in a thin box, the man at the gate declared it as my second bag and charged me €70!
I booked an easyjet for august fairly early, just after the summer schedule was released, and for some reason the 1 bag I booked has a weight allowance of 32KG.
To even nearly manage a bag of that weight I would have to visit the gym from now until august . ( I know its an allowance, not a target)
Re: Easy Jet charges for oversize luggage.
perhaps its your wallet that shoots the weight up?Gary/Gaynor wrote:The strange thing is I must have flown maybe 500 times and never even got close to exceeding the weight allowanceEMM wrote:EJ will now charge you £40 /item if they discover that your cabin baggage is oversized or you have an extra case/bag at the boarding gate.![]()

Re: Easy Jet charges for oversize luggage.
Easy Jet used to allow a weight up to 32 kg if 2 people only booked 1 bag but this has now changed and the max weight allowance is 20kg per bag. If you have a very big bag and want to pay excess baggage then the heaviest weight the bag can be is 32 kg.joeysoap wrote: I booked an easyjet for august fairly early, just after the summer schedule was released, and for some reason the 1 bag I booked has a weight allowance of 32KG.

Don't even think about this option.cereza wrote:If you have a very big bag and want to pay excess baggage then the heaviest weight the bag can be is 32 kg.
Excess baggage is charged at £10 per kg, so a 32 kg bag would cost a total of £138.00 !!
Whereas two bags at only 20kg each would cost a total of £36.00 for 40kg.
(all prices are "each way")
go figure...
Re: Easy Jet charges for oversize luggage.
Spot on e-richard . I was just pointing out the relevance of 32 kg now. Excess baggage charges are extortinate
Re: Easy Jet charges for oversize luggage.
If the wife is carrying a large handbag plus a normal cabin luggage the handbag could cost you £40 as it is regarded as an extra pce of cabin baggage.
Re: Easy Jet charges for oversize luggage.
What about if you buy some duty free and arrive at the gate with your hand luggage plus a bag of duty free which won't fit into your hand luggage??
Re: Easy Jet charges for oversize luggage.
If you check their terms of carriage you will see that you are allowed one carrier bag of goods bought in the departure lounge per person in addition to your normal luggage.
Hint: keep an empty old duty free carrier bag in your hand baggage then put newspaper and wife's handbag into it and everbody is happy.

Re: Easy Jet charges for oversize luggage.
my printout of the booking states 32kg. I have since checked EZY and it is now as you say, 20kg. hopefully when I print out the boarding passes it will also state 32kg. To be honest I could not that weight, but was hoping for around the 25kg mark as we still have some stuff to take out. Next flight is with RY so that's an non runner.cereza wrote:Easy Jet used to allow a weight up to 32 kg if 2 people only booked 1 bag but this has now changed and the max weight allowance is 20kg per bag.
