Our favorites are:
Chaminé Red or the White,
Monsarez Red or the White,
Tinto da Anfora - Red . Not sure it is always available but have seen in InterMarche' and if you really want to push the boat out.

Tend to now buy all our wine from the little wine shop right on the square in CVO. The lady there who runs the shop is usually pretty smack on the nose when you ask for her opinion on wines. You can get some good ones there from €3.50 upwards, some even less. It’s fun exploring local wines to see which ones you like. We are not wine snobs but some of the white can be a bit ‘green’ (Vinho Verde) which I like BUT can play hell with my stomach after a week or two so we tend to stay with some of the familiar ones we have been quaffing :D

We haven't found a good Portuguese sparkler either, however a good substitute is a bottle of cheap Asti which you can get from Lidl, served ice cold with a generous squeeze of fresh lime juice, most of our guests think they are drinking champagne! Works every time.

Thanks folks. I will be out in June with my sister-in-law (and my wife) It promises to be a very liquid holiday.

Value for money red is EA or Monte Claros both less than 5 euros a bottle........very nice! I don't drink white so no comment there. My wife drinks Casal Garcia green wine, served ice cold is nice & light especially in the summer. She's tried several more expensive green wines, but still prefers Casal Garcia

correct - they have several quite cheap sparkling wines - this is their own brand - usually under €4 - be careful as one is sweet!

sorry, my wife has just reminded me they actually do 3 versions, doce, semi-doce and bruto - ie sweet to dry - not that we would have bought any of these of course

Have had a " Marques de Marialva Bairrada ,Bruto " from Lidl , drinkable at 4€ and Lancers Brut at same price from most supermarkets, but not so drinkable....the Spannish Freixenet Brut ( Black bottle) at 6€ is quite nice, but not Portuguese!

Try any Murganheira Brut. You won't be dissapointed. You also have Raposeira on a lower price.
