I suppose the natural direction to go if they are looking for more drinks etc is down the hill - probably why I didn't hear about it.

Long may they continue to go down the hill - or, even better, get "sorted" by the GNR.

I'm afraid it has been getting worse over the last few years....things at the Black Stove have worsened this last few weeks. It appears that the new manager closes his eyes to the problems. Unlike last year when they moved on any yobs looking for trouble. As I said in my original post...I think the owners/managers are only looking at what they're earning & not too worried who they serve to get it! I know everyone is struggling, but it is a very short sighted way to run a business....
The yobs seem to hang out there more on a Friday night...

It's only been there a few years - this can only be its 3rd season at the most.

I understood that they were refused a music licence but were still acting as though they had one. Is this enough to cause them to be a bit more careful about their actions?

Even though we visit CVO every year we've never been in the Black Stove since it opened a few years ago.
Are these 'yobs' local Portuguese or other nationalities?

Can't say we've noticed much increase in yobbish behaviour in CVO over last few years, but we tend to frequent the Round-Up and with Big Wil around any sign of 'unrest' tends to quickly get stamped out :D - noisy, excited, singing and generally a good time - yes, defintely, but not true yobbism.

I must admit to have been uneasy about the comments on the forum over the last year about burglaries, etc on the increase, but we also need to keep things in proportion - you don't want to frighten 'newbies' to CVO off.

Someone mentioned Benidorm earlier - off there in a few weeks for a long weekend for a blast - not much trouble there either actually, even on 'the strip' - v noisy and drunkeness, but no real trouble off season. And if you don't like the streets that are full of clubs, just avoid them - simples.

Been in CVO a lot over last 3 years and have yet to see any of this sort of bad bahaviour. Is it Brits on the piss who are the problem, locals or other nationalities?

Staying in the Tivoli in Feby 10 (apt not ready) we often visited the Black Stove on the way back to the hotel. One of the few bars open on our route and it was quite nice. Quiet time of year, no live music and an Irish guy was running it. Nice pint of the black stuff served and only 'complaint' was the cd playing appeared to be the only one he had (the script - tiresome after a couple of nights) On subsequent visits to CVO the place was either bereft of customers of closed. Shame if it's now reopened but drawing the wrong type of customer.

I think the yobs come from Lagoa & Poço Partido area....if I'm not mistaken part of the same group that wrecked Mungo's & killed the guy in the square earlier in the year...

If the bar is attracting the wrong type of customer, especially if its local trash, and having more and more trouble then as the season gets going they will find their bar stays pretty empty while others fill up. If CVO was a brash tourist resort with lots of clubs then their approach would be no different to many others but the general style of CVO and the tourists that it attracts is not like that. Come the high season people will vote with their feet.

My guess is that either the Black Stove will improve its act or will close at the end of the season.

Negative publicity on here will deter many from going there, especially if it's a family on holiday.

I must say that, as a new arrival to Carvoeiro, the Stove was recommended to me by a neighbour. I have been there on many occasions and I have nothing but good to say. The acts that they have at the weekends are top notch, the patrons are always polite and courteous and the staff are always keen to please. I feel that this post is bias and unfair. I would feel that the standards set in the bar are much higher than that of its competitors in the area and perhaps we should give the place a chance. Also, this sort of banter is of no benefit to the image of the town. Perhaps your concerns should be delivered in person to the management!!

Really? Higher standards? Compared with which other bars?
