Dentist needed
Dentist needed
Hi can anyone tell me where to find a dentist here that gives an injection in the hand to knock you out before treatment. im terrified of the dentist. Thank you for any info.
Re: Dentist needed
The dentist I use is brilliant! I am terrified of needles & dentists & explained all this to them & they couldn't have been better. Go & have a chat with them. They are a multi-national practice & completely fluent in English.

My dentist is Dr Hugo but they are all excellent.

The surgery which is in Lagoa, is better, and cheaper than the one in Carvoeiro, and costs about 70 euros a visit....+ bolt ons!!

It is only when you are in the UK do you appreciate the NHS dental service and the costs saved.I had root canal surgery carried out last November.I went to a private dentist and they wanted £800.I opted to use my local NHS dentist(despite waiting 6 weeks for treatment) and I paid only a small fraction of that; and he was a much better dentist.

How do I know? I dunno really, apart from
1. I used that dentist previously
2.A member of my family used that dentist
3.A neighbour also used that dentist for root canal surgery and was not impressed.
Of course, when the dentist DRILLS right into the tooth and cuts out the the very sensitive nerve: do ask for an anaesthetic! It is rather convenient!

Re: Dentist needed
I realised just how expensive dentistry is in the UK, when I was recently in India.
I lost a filling and went to an Indian dentist....forget the jokes....he had an up to the minute surgery, and was a very good dentist, using all the latest techniques....non of this bunging half a pound of amalgum in and hoping, you can get over here.
When he finished he gave me the bill....the rupee equivalent of £20.
He told me I really needed a crown fitting, when I asked how much, he quoted me £300!!! A fraction of what it would cost in the UK.
He told me that people find it worth while to fly out to India when they need a lot of expensive dental work like several crowns, or veneers.

Re: Dentist needed
A friend of mine flew out to India last Christmas with his (very extended) family - they all had dental work done and a three week holiday for the price of having it done in the UK
Re: Dentist needed
I would advise caution on going all the way to India for your dentistry - what happens if you have a problem and need to return ?
Also costs whilst cheaper could be a false economy if you need to have it rectified .
Cost of a crown on the NHS is £198 and privately ( in the North ) about £350 so personally I dont think its worth going all the way to India to make that sort of saving especially if you need to go back .

Re: Dentist needed
Obviously cost depends on the practice. My root canal done privately was £250.

Most dentists charge 4 figures for a decent visible crown.
