Move from Escondidinho's
Move from Escondidinho's
I have heard that one of the brothers from Escondidinho's has moved to another restaurant, some up restaurant hill and turn off to the left - does anyone know what it is called and a more precise location?
Re: Move from Escondidinho's
I have been told that Jao has moved to Estrela do Mar. Can anyone confirm as I got this secondhand from my parents who have just flown back. However, they did say that Carlos is coping well and the food is just as good.
Re: Move from Escondidinho's
João has moved to "Ponto de Encontro" in Areias dos Moínhos!
Re: Move from Escondidinho's
So who is doing all of the running about now then since João has moved on. Last time I spoke to him (2008) he said that his father was selling up in the near future, obviously didn't happen or maybe it's still on the cards. João also said he wanted to open his own restaurantkappa wrote:João has moved to "Ponto de Encontro" in Areias dos Moínhos!

Where is Ponto do Enconto in ADM?
Re: Move from Escondidinho's
Take the first left after you enter the estate and it is there on the right, where the reception is. There is a sign post and menu on the traffic island as you enter ADM.Aldo wrote:Where is Ponto do Enconto in ADM?
Re: Move from Escondidinho's
Hi. We stay in ADM and regularly walk past this restaraunt on our way into town. Always looks friendly and inviting and appears to be mainly locals eating there (always a good sign!!). Promised ourselves not to walk past next year and call in. Anyone any experience of eating at Ponto Do Enconto?
Re: Move from Escondidinho's
Yes, the food is ok, and you can order takeaways from there as well, which is useful if you have a night in but don't want to cook.
Re: Move from Escondidinho's
Hi Matrix. Reading another thread I now realise I was talking about another eaterie. I have actually dined at Ponto do Enconto and it was pleasant enough. At Easter they were not very busy and the chap was very attentive and the food was good value for money.
I was actually referring to the small restuarant on the right on R. dos Moinhos as you walk away from Aries dos Moinhos. It is on a junction and has a raised elavation. This is where I notice locals eating and was going to give it a try in 2011.

Re: Move from Escondidinho's
Lamby, do you mean Estrela do Mar? If so, it's a nice place and Joao (ex-Algar Seco) is a nice guy too. Good for large parties and also popular with expats. They had weekly live music in the summer but I don't know if it's still on.
Re: Move from Escondidinho's
That's it ditzy. However, there appears to be some confusion. Where is Joao? Ponto do Enconto or Estrela do Mar?? I will most definitely try Estrela do Mar next year. Thanks again
Re: Move from Escondidinho's
Joao is at Estrela do Mar - very nice man and great restaurant. We ate there twice on our visit in November and had excellent food at reasonable prices. I can personally recommend the pork with figs. Delicious. Good music on Saturday nights. English singer doing karaoke - my little group had fun trying to remember the original singers of the songs he played.

" English Singer Doing Karaoke " cross this place off the list straight away.

I get your point but he actually has quite a reasonable voice, and as I said it was fun trying to remember the original singers.
Re: Move from Escondidinho's
This is all getting a bit confusing ! João has moved to "Ponto de Encontro" , because we saw him there and had a talk when we visited in October. The place looked good and had been recently done up, but whilst the lunch specials looked good value, the evening meals all looked more expensive than Escondidnho's.
Whilst the food at Escondidnho's hasn't changed , we didn't think the atmosphere was quite the same.....Carlos is friendly enough, but doesn't speak English as well.
