Ma Ja´s

Post by steffiemills »

For anyone visiting carvoeiro looking for good quality food, fantastic service and great prices, then please check out Ma Ja´s- Our experience of eating out in Carvoerio has been ok...not big fish eaters and chicken only seems to be served on a bone so we have struggled. This is the second time we have been out this year to Carvoeiro and we just wish we found Ma Ja´s before. The food was great, nice selection, good portion and great value for money. Comes highly recommended.

It´s off the main square on the road up the hill to Fergoues. But well well worth the walk.....!

The staff are a bit dodgy though :)

It's a good place to take kids who are maybe getting homesick, foodwise and Jan has a great array of colouring books and the like.

Many thanks for all your kind comments, with maybe the above being the exception

Mark and I thoroughly enjoy what we do and look forward to seeing you again soon.

Just back from our first ever visit to Carvoeiro (may I call it CVO?) which we thoroughly enjoyed (I intend to compile a review of the whole experience if I can be bothered, because in my preparations for the holiday I was greatly assisted by various comments on the forum, and would hope to assist others in the same way). It's a pity that my impression of Ma-Ja's from advertising etc was that it revelled in its "Englishness", which is why we avoided it until near the end of the fortnight (before anyone takes offence, I would equally have avoided anywhere which relied on its "Irishness" or "Scottishness"---I can go to a Scottish bar/restaurant any day of the week, why fly hundreds of miles to do the same?).

It transpires that it is very far from the sort of place which has 3 TV's showing Premiership football, and serving John Smiths bitter, which is what I'd feared. Instead it is a compact, clean and welcoming restaurant with good food and friendly service, which I have no hesitation in recommending to anyone. The owners deserve every success, so do yourself a favour and track them down (they lose points only because their location is not ideal).

But then they'd have to have the 3 TVs, non-stop football etc. I think their position is ideal. Handy for a drink before the long climb home. :)

Yes agree the location is not perfect but when you do find them,it's a good experience. No TV football, just nice music in the background and a welcoming smile from them both. Whatever the formula, they have found it.
