Reviews of Carvoeiro

Post by James Faro »

I was reading the reviews of a certain well-known complex within CVO and of the town itself, on a specialized website. First things first! The resort in question is excellent. I have stayed there and it has many justly-positive reviews.

But, there are some who got out of the way to complain or make-up a complaint. I am not sure what their intentions are!

One reviewer complained that the resort is only for 'old people" and then tripped herself up by admitting that she had brought with her a very elderly relative! Eh?

Another reviewer complained about the flies! What does he want - the Portuguese army to be called out and declare a martial law on them? Somebody complained about it being too quiet! I thought that would that was the prerequisite of a holiday. Maybe he should have pitched-up a tent on the Faro airport runway! Another enlightened reviewer complained about a small chip on the outside of the bath that is barely visible!

The problem on these review websites is that one negative comment is wrongly powerful as 99 excellent reviews and some people believe the negative.

Apart from the appalling inaccurate descriptions of CVO some reviewers are just idiotic but it makes humorous reading! One person complained that he was bored even though he knew where the resort was and deliberately decided not to hire a car!

I think that you are right in believing that certain review sites are frequented by those who like to complain.
There are certain Algarve forums which are full of negative reports about life, security , prices etc , usually from just a few very regular contributors.
The world is full of half full. half empty people. I have often been accused of being too pro portugal/pro algarve and I make no apologies for being so.

And you are complaining about the people who complain. To be honest, I don't think Carvoeiro is too much to write home about but the neighbourhood is great.

And so you shouldn't! It is great that you do promote CVO; the town and all surrounding areas. Well done. :D

I often take the trouble to write what I hope is a balanced review of places I have stayed. Sometimes when I read some of the other reviews of a place I've been to I can't believe that the reviewers have been to the same place! It does seem that there are people who think that posting a review is all about having a moan. I remember a review last year from someone who said our complex was full of kids. He happened to be staying the same weeks as us and it was early September. The UK schools had just re-opened after the summer hols. No school age kids were there and there were just three pre-school children in the whole complex (74 apartments) who were as good as gold. It just seemed as though he was struggling for something to moan about and this was all he could come up with.
You can read a bunch of reviews of an accommodation and you can hear about its 'rude staff', 'wonderfully helpful staff', 'poor cleanliness', exceptional cleanliness', etc. etc. The comments that are useful are the factual ones like 'near a noisy main road', 'long way from beach', 'sewage works next door', etc.

All in all, reviews are best not taken too seriously and only as a rough guide.

I like Carvoeiro and as it happens it was the first place we stayed when we came to Portugal.First we stayed at the Basellis pension, then we moved into a 2 bed apartment in Carvoeiro whilst our apartment in Lagoa was being prepared.Ellie and me have always liked the Portuguese people and found them very friendly. We made lots of friends during our two times of living there and hope we will soon be back there. We have a viewing tomorrow afternoon so we have fingers crossed.

As a young 40 year old !! love the relaxed way of Carvoeiro. If you want neon lights and a pumping strip with annoying touts advertising cheap cocktails and English food it won't be for you. However if you like a variety of meals, civilised entertainment and friendly staff with beautiful views and traditional looking accomodation and many beaches choose Carvoeiro

Good luck with your viewing today Eco/Ellie – I for one wish you all the best and hope your dream of moving back to the Algarve gets realised - you both deserve it.

Well you will get lots of cheap English food but probably won't get the cheap cocktails.

I see another restaurant/bar is opening, opposite Martin's Grill. It's called 'Onze', anyone know anything about it?

Restaurante ONZE I think is owned by greek people.
The guy who is going to run it is ANDRE , who first worked at Vila Medici and the last 2 years at TAPAS.
Very nice guy, hard worker and very friendly.
Opening around the 14th this month.
Don´t think it will be a cheap restaurant though.
