Barry wrote:As I said during the reconstruction of the square, you can see from the plan on my photo record that there was no proper cobbled link over the square to connect the in and the out roads. I understand that Lagoa council blame this on the design being produced in Lisboa. The current route was a temporary fix which became permanent. That is why it is paved to pedestrian standards, not vehicular. I still think that unless traffic is banned from the square, as may have been the original intention, the link should be in front of Soares garrafeira. It would need to be cobbled, and wide enough for a bus to negotiate. Then the whole area south to the beach wall would be traffic free. Shade trees planted in soil, not pots, and lighting that does not look like it came from the side of a motorway, would sort it for me. But that's only my opinion. :)
I agree entirely with you Barry, all they would have to do is knock down that derelict building between the in and the out road.

Completely agree with PTBuxton and this would ease the traffic close to the beach. My concern is that a nasty accident will occur at some point due to the speed and lack of care seen when driving through the current scheme.
Cars and delivery vans park infront of the carvoeiro sol hotel causing obstructions and problems for pedestrians due to lack of loading space.

There are other solutions and , for " In road " traffic Cars should not be allowed to proceed into the square, only delivery vehicles, hotel access . taxis. .
The same with traffic coming downhill past Sullys.
The square could also be made traffic free " in season " from 7.00pm - 7 am.

THis was done in Tavira over 25 years ago along the waoterfront and seemed to work there.

Another is for the GNR to really clamp down on those who park in the reserved for deliveries or disabled driver spaces.

There ia also a petition circulating around the town generated by some of the shops and bars whom are asking for the car park to be reinstated due to diminishing trade.

The petion is discussed on another thread

Carvoeiro is a much better place with the changes ( imperfect as they may be ).
Only 40 people have signed the petition ( incl some bar owners ).who would use any parking spaces for them selves rather than any for visitors.

Not looking good for those of us that would like to see the vehicle crossing over the square moved. There is now a pile of large cobbles by the works, so you can assume that the current route is going to be cobbled and made permanent. The stupid thing is that the area in front of the off-licence has been widened during the refurb., and is now the route across the square (where I, and many others, would like to see it). It seems to be working perfectly well. A missed opportunity that is unlikely to arise again in the near future.

I think it's a kneee-jerk reaction to the general level of trade, and despite the current mess, I do agree the changes did drastically improve the appearance of the centre. Hope things pick up for all concerned as we don't want to see empty shops, restaurants and bars dominating the place!

It's so obvious it will go completely unnoticed by the council.

Speaking to several business owners in Carvoeiro today, there is a genuine fear that the weather wont pick up before Easter weekend at the earliest, and that Easter....traditionally kicking off the season, will be a disaster for Carvoeiro.

It's true, traffic circulation is working great and the lane is even wide enough so that those turning left don't stall the traffic heading up Farol. Problem is, now the stones on the intersection are breaking up....
