Surely Kteee, as a Moderator and resident, you should be a bit more impartial with your comments about local businesses.

But I'm sure you will have already told Libbe face to face that you don't rate his food, his over-familiar service, or the squashed together tables, so that he can try to improve.

Agreed Mr.W

One of the bar owners the other week warned us of some of the 'impartial' comments on here from some of the 'locals' who only support some of the 'local' CVO businesses thru this forum.

We were in conversation about the restaurant we were planning to visit that eve, and i said "Some of the comments about the restaurant on the CVO website forum are a bit mixed!". The bar owner replied with a laugh "Take some of the opinions about restaurants/bars on the forum with a large dose of salt, especially those made by some of the 'CVO residents (mainly Brit expats)', as they're normally favouring their mates!" Hmmm!!

It's not just the Brit expats who do this, the Dutch and also Northern Portuguese tend to be a bit 'Patriotic' when recommending where and where not to eat or drink.

My only recommendation is try a place for yourself. I always prefer to make my own opinion about somewhere.

I'm as entitled to my opinions as anyone else on the forum - I don't have 'mates' with businesses, I call it as I see it and will continue to do so

I don't see why my opinions should carry any more weight than any one else

No one accused you with the 'mates' quote. If you read my earlier posting a large part of it was with speech marks, because I was quoting one of the CVO bar owners.
To any newbie or relative newbie reading the restaurants threads try the CVO restaurants for yourself and form your own opinion - we've tried most over the years but after 9 visits in last 8 years we have our favourites.

Aw c'mon, Bristle Si, surely a forum like this is richer for having restaurant reviews and reviews of anything and everything to do in and around CVO. Its helpful to first time visitors to get some ideas and so dos and don'ts. It doesn't take too much effort (or intelligence) to read a bunch of reviews, see a mix, and make up your own mind, but surely they are helpful ?

Any bar/restaurant owner who gets a 'poor review' is going to say that, did you not think that perhaps his comments should be taken with a pinch of salt. Most people I know just say whether they've had a good experience or not, simple as that, no ulterior motive. Apart from the fact that if people have favourites of course they're going to sing their praises, presumably they're their favourites because they've really enjoyed them.

I really like The Irish Times friendly staff & nice atmosphere have only ever had breakfast here & it was excellent. :D

If the bar has never had a bad review on this forum, tell everybody the name so that they can sample this establishment of excellence.

Hmmm not sure that this was necessary.

As Kteee said everyone is entitled to their own opinion! It does seem a shame though that if your opinion upsets a forum sponsor the comment is removed and yet if they are not a sponsor the critisism remains. Double standards perhaps.

I wasn't aware this forum and its topics were solely for the use of visitors and not residents? Ridiculous.

Actually BS I said 'any' bar owner & 'perhaps' his comments should be taken with a pinch of salt.

I certainly don't need some self-imposed, self-important, bar, restaurant & supermarket reviewer telling me how or what to post, perhaps in future you might like to try a little self- moderation, or at least practice what you preach & think before you write.
