You may knock the previous owners but a couple of years ago when the golf Open was at Penina I rang them up and asked to reserve a table for 8 on the sunday night when the golf finished. The lady told me that they closed on a sunday but for us they would open. We had a great night swapping stories with the pair of them. I lady came across a little stiff but I think she wasnt suited to her role and was nervous once she opened up she was great..

Chrissys
You must have been when the previous owners had packed it in and a young couple took over
You see the previous owners have had two attempts to run the place, and failed on the first attempt, and it appears failed on the second attempt.
The chef(partner) was quite good but the wife who ran the front of house was a right cow,

No, I'm sorry I disagree.
I think the chef, (the husband), was very good indeed.
The wife may have been a bit daunting front of house, but I always found her charming. OK she sat there like a madam, and may have looked down her nose a bit at some clients....a bit like some of the posh restaurant maître-des and head waiters do, but that restaurant had an excellent reputation for superb northern French/Belgian food, and will be a hard act to follow in the culinary sense.

Ohh I see, so that´s why she didn´t let us in, she didn´t think we were good enough.Bruce Wallis wrote:The wife may have been a bit daunting front of house, but I always found her charming. Re: Chrissys, Lagoa
I can only judge this restaurant on the one visit last Saturday having met the new owners Debbie and Louis in Bar Talvez the previous evening. We had a really wonderful time, with superbly cooked food, first class presentation and great hospitality. Both the Chef and Maitre’d are new hires and together with Debbie and Louis they clearly make a great team. I gather the décor and the general layout is much the same as before and is refreshing change from the typical style of other restaurants in the area. Ideal for couples or small adult groups. We will certainly go back and feel sure that under the new management the restaurant will do very well.

We'll certainly give it a look in July. The old Chrissys was one of our favourite restaurants.

I know Louis and Debbie well and have done for a few years now. Louis retired from the UK about 18 months ago to move to CVO. They have the house on ADM Pato mentioned, plus an apartment at Monte Carvoeiro where they planned to live in the summer whilst renting out the house on ADM - don't know whether those plans have changed now. If they treat their customers as well as "occassional" friends, then I can only surmise Chrissy's will be well worth a visit. If may be French-Belgium, but you'll also get a nice bit of Essex/London as well!Bruce Wallis wrote:We'll certainly give it a look in July. The old Chrissys was one of our favourite restaurants.

Re: Chrissys, Lagoa
This is one we will give a try when we come out at the end of the month, that is if I can find it!! I tried to 'suss' it out last visit and couldn't find it... can you give me directions please
Re: Chrissys, Lagoa
We shall certainly give it a whirl, when we can get out there. As I am part Belgian, the idea of having hopefully traditional Belgian fayre excites my taste buds, however I shal be dissapointed if it is sudo Belgian. But again if the food is tasty and service good then. what the heck

Re Chrissys LAGOA
It is under new management and we have now eaten there several times. The food is wonderful and it is well worth a visit. It may be a little more expensive than a lot of places but the extra money is worth it. We have had some incredible dishes there and would recommend anyone to try it. 3 course meal without drinks is 34 euros and meal with two starters is 39 euros. If you have a special occasion ' GO THERE you will not regret it.

Just to thank everyone for their kind comments, and to let you know that the 34/39 euros also includes all house wine, water and coffees you drink while eating. We're from Sevenoaks, Kent oringinally and now permanent residents here. We look forward to further comments or suggestions, and welcoming more of you.
