Oasis Restaurant

Post by dennisg »

I haven't seen this restaurant mentioned before, and have just returned from CVO after 10 days there, and eating twice at Oasis. Yes, it was so good we just had to return again. Very good cover, soup, garlic prawns, wine and coffee for 18 euros. Unfortunately I think they have now closed for the winter until February.
Also ate twice at Casa do Bife, excellent sirloin steak, cooked (by me!) to perfection, and of course couldn't visit CVO without a visit to Happys. Wonderful meal and atmosphere, just like being at a party. Libbe and Harry get you talking to the people on the next tables. Can't wait until my next trip in January.

Agree with you dennisg. It is unpretentious, but supplies good honest food for an excellent price. Love the monkfish kebab, but most of what we have tried has been fine.

Gotta say i agree with all about the Oasis, I drove down through spain on my motorbike last year with some mates and it was the first restaurant my mates and I went to and it was excellent, dying to try Happys aswell but can never get a table as its always fully booked(must say a lot).

That is another reason to avoid Happy's. Libbe not only manhandles and generally tries to humiliate you, he gets you talking to people on the next table. That is my idea of a nightmare, and you pay for it.

couldn't agree more, over bearing, over familiar staff with sub standard food,,, there's nothing to put your teeth on edge quicker than someone telling you to smile and be happy...what a misnomer, avoid at all costs

I agree with ellie, Libbe always makes you welcome even if you only visit CVO once a year. We've been visiting Happy for the last 6 years and always look forward to our next visit even if the wife doesn't like Port! - which reminds me I must look out his phone number to warn him we are coming again in June!

Actually its 3 years ago in May when we visited Nod and we had a grand time..people were so friendly(we had 3 days there)..hotel near theatre & memorial garden. I loved it and thought 'I could live here if the weather was hotter' :)
Went to the writers museum, Trinity College (Book of Kells)..Grafton street and pub of course  .....Phoenix park and to Chapelizod too.
But also love Algarve, our old home and of course the wonderful climate, which gives it sway over Dublin. Would love to visit Ireland again and see more of the country.
Jonfromdon, Im with you, I like the atmosphere in Happys  (and having a flirt too...... 8) )

They must be doing something right - it is always full and you have to book up well in advance.
You seem to be in a minority and I assume that you don't go there any more but yet you seem to be obsessive in your criticism - is there a special reason for this apart from what you have already mentioned?
