Ref Bar Prices
Hi Folks - Is it my imagination or has the price of the local bars gone up this year! We were there 3 weeks ago to see our villa build and went to a well known bar with music - the price for a pint was €3.50 - is this the norm? - I've never really noticed before as we are usually in a large crowd with our ladies as well - this time it was 3 men, so it was obvious. Where's the cheapest?
Re: Ref Bar Prices
E3.50 ? we paid E3.00 at the bar on the rocks at Algar seco last month.
Mungo,s last year E2.50
Daft as thiis may seem have some with the reduction in numbers raised prices to maintain turnover ??
What we will do is eat / drink more at home, maybe walk into town later and then only have a couple of Small drinks.
CVO does not seem to have the competative spririt between bars that you see in other resorts.
The supermarkets will benefit though

I don't know how valid this is right on the coast, but cross the 125 and it's still true - Bottles & Jugs

Re: Ref Bar Prices
Early last year paid €2.50 then by November it was €3. Will find out how much soon as will be out Friday. Now about 2 years ago I was paying €2 for a large beer and the exchange rate meant in pound terms about £1.40 now it may be £3.50 which makes it dearer than the average pub in London.. Methinks they could be shooting themselves in both feet a classic mistake is to raise your prices if you are getting less custom

Re: Ref Bar Prices
Hello everyone
My wife and I are probably your newest members. We holidayed in CVO in 2007 and 2008 and genuinely believe it is the most attractive place we have ever visited and following our retirement next year we shall be looking at much longer stays. As far as bar prices are concerned (and indeed meal prices), we did notice that last year they had gone up quite a bit since 2007 to the extent that they are now at least on a par with the UK if not a bit higher. All the indications are that the number of Brits taking holidays overseas this year will drop alarmingly and I think the slowness of villa and apartment rentals in CVO testifies to this. I guess those who provide meals etc have to somehow strike a balance between not penalising those who do come by charging them more to cover the loss of those who don't. Anyway we'll be back and thank you all for this very entertaining forum.

Why not try up the side streets? Imprevesto and Bellisimo are both still very reasonable, both on the out Road we use them a lot and very friendly owners/staff, will let you all know next week if the prices have gone up since Feb.
Re: Ref Bar Prices
Agree, Hemmingways as well, good value, Jokers bar has a bottle of Cristal for one euro
Re: Ref Bar Prices
Try going to Helders Tropical bar just outside Rocha Brava. Very frendly. Good beer 2.20 Euros Pint
Re: Ref Bar Prices
Very interested in this thread as I and 11 other thirsty golfers arrive for 5 nights in mid june!
Already we are talking of buying slabs of beer for around the pool at our villa in the town at night to lessen the blow to our pockets rather than do the usual and head straight out for ales.I would rather go straight out to the bars for the night but I fear at 3.50 euro a pint we will be drinking half in the villa and half in the pubs to save on expenditure.

Re: Ref Bar Prices
I'm not sure who has raised their prices to 3.50€, but that is not the norm, most sell a large beer between 2.75€ and 3.00€. (I personally did a comparison tonight so I know it is correct, wife not happy though as I only went out for some water).
What's worth remembering though, is that beer in the UK has an ABV% (Alcohol by Volume) of approx 3.6 - 3.8, whilst Lager has approx 4.0 - 4.5.
By popular brands the ABV is as follows-:
John Smiths Smooth 3.8% ABV
Draught Guiness 4.1% ABV
Carling 4.1% ABV
Carlsberg 3.8% ABV
Fosters 4.0% ABV
Stella Artois 5% ABV
Here in Portugal the popular beers are much stronger. i.e. Super Bock 5.6%, Sagres 5.1%
So if you compare this as price per ABV%, you can get p****d for less in Portugal than in the UK - If that's what you want.

Re: Ref Bar Prices
Its still relatively cheap for me as a beer out here cost €4.50 to €5. What concerns me though is how fast the prices are increasing in pound terms its about 150% in about 2 years that cannot be good and also justified

My colleague at work is also going to the game he goes to most. Be prepared for the €5 pint but you may find it cheaper if you look around. Enjoy the game
