So how did Christmas Dinner Go?

Post by tricky »

How about a review about where you spent Christmas dinner in Carvoeiro,
it would be very useful for those of us planning to be there in 2009

We had a great meal. Good company and not very crowded. We ate at home in the villa! :P

We had our Christmas day evening meal in the La Bella Vita, it was superb, seven courses in all :D :D . The cost was only 45 Euros per person. The atmosphere was a little lively but this did not detract from the meal. Service was up to their usual excellent standard.

We had a great Christmas dinner, the turkey & ham from Apolonia in Gale were delicious, as were all the veg from the same, & the chipolatas from Blue Rock though rather bready had a really good flavour. Smoked salmon courtesy of above was absolutely delicious, some of the best I've tasted, had it Christmas eve, Christmas day & Boxing day. Yummy! :D

I have heard so many hit and miss stories with Blue Rock that I thought I would play it safe and buy all my meat from Intermarche. I was not at all disappointed.

I bought a huge turkey breast (I don't eat the dark meat and a whole turkey is a waste for us) I cut it into three joints (froze two) and cooked one on Christmas Day with the left overs for Boxing Day, one I cut into strips and used it for rice and pasta dishes and the third I cooked on New Years Day. All in all very good value and no waste.

These stories were from ex-pats. Perhaps, when used on a regular basis it's a different matter.

Gary and I can also vouche for Blue Rock, never had a problem, we never go anywhere else for our meat now. Really good at giving advice on best cuts, cooking instructions (yes sometimes I need that too) always friendly, best ever in my opinion.

I bought hamburg there last winter and it had a funny taste had to throw out the spaghetti sauce. Will stick with Internmarche and meat shops in Loule market.
