Weather and Hotel

Hi we are thinking of going to Carvoeiro 21st September staying at the Carvoeiro Sol. Firstly can anyone tell me what the weather will be like and also at the hotel is it better to have a high floor room we are having a sea view room and do they all have balconies. The last time I visited Carvoeiro was in 1981 so I suppose it has changed quite a lot but I do hope it is still as pretty. Any help would be appreciated.

I 'm usually out in CVO at that time and I've always had beautiful weather..in fact I find it just right!
I've only had a brief stay in the Sol beach hotel..it was okay but we had ground floor room,facing inwards(Sept time) and found it claustrophobic. It was also a bit noisy in the small hours. But I know others here have enjoyed their stay there..and hopefully can help you more!
But yes,think it would be nicer for you on higher floor with balcony!

Stayed in the Sol in July 2003 and like Ellie had pool facing rooms - interconnecting because of the children. Unlike Ellie I did not find them claustrophobic - have to say for the amount of time we spent in them - i.e. just a place to shower/bath and to sleep I tend to not be too fussy.

Personally I didn't find it noisy there although with an inwards facing room there is bound to be less noise from the square plus it is amazing what you can sleep through after a couple of bottles of wine and several ports

Hope you get some feedback from someone who has stayed in a sea facing room with a balcony though.

You will have a brilliant time I am sure.

I wouldn't say I was 'too fussy'( for someone who lived in a caravan for a year, I wouldnt be!)......Im just saying it as I experienced. Loud talking and banging of doors at 2 and 3am..and I found the ground floor room stuffy!
Luckily mine was just an overnight stay, but to be truthful, personally I wouldn't want to spend a week in there, though Im sure an upper floor room with balcony would be better.

Sorry Ellie I didn't mean to imply for one moment that you were 'too fussy' - what I meant is that I really am not fussy at all about accommodation - it is very much just a place to shower, change and sleep to me.

Different when you stay at a villa though because you tend to spend much more time there - e.g. around the pool some days, bbq's and other meals in, it seems much important then that the accommodation is good.

But not bothered at all in hotels and apartments when on hot hols.

My sister stayed in an upper floor room in March facing the square. I don't think it was at all noisy, and it seemed quite a nice and spacious room and nice having the balconies.

Ours was an overnight stay, thats all. Im simply speaking of our experience..which wasn't a good one.

Hey I hope I am not causing an argument here I just wanted feedback on the Sol hotel I have not booked it yet but I do want to stay in the centre without big hills to walk home after having a meal. Years ago I remember it was called the Don Santo or something similar.

We usually go to Cvo. at that time of year and have found that Cvo. is much quieter then, than it used to be........the bar and restaurant owners would obviously like it to be busier. I don't think you would find it noisy at all though we stay up them darn hills

Yes it was that night. But I still didn't like the room. We found it so 'shut-in' and warm. The 'French window-type' door facing inwards was fixed and only opened a few inches. Also you had to keep curtains closed as people could see in.
It was an emergency stopover..but not getting any sleep and the noise from people coming in during the early hours made for a grumpy,uncomfortable experience.
But to be honest, I never like hotel rooms.I like space and to make a cuppa if I want..also a comfy chair/sofa(which we didn't have.
'Comfy chair'?!

What am I saying? Sounds like the Spanish inquisition

I think a night under the stars, maybe in one of those fishing boats,would have been preferable

p.s. I agree with guest here..Sept. is nicer time in CVO and I think Doz will enjoy it.
Memo to myself : never take the key to your washingmachine cupboard out with you..much better to take key to apartment

Have stayed at the Sol quite a few times, we use it because of position to the square, beach etc. My husband is disabled and some days cannot walk too far so Sol is ideal.
We always have a balcony room looking over the square, try and get one on the second floor, will be quieter, sometimes can get noise coming up from the bar area, remember this hotel unlike UK ones is tiled throughout so does not have the benefit of carpets deadening sound.
Agree with Ellie about banging doors, this is only because nobody seems to bother to work out that you can shut them with your 'card key' and just let them bang!

Food is adequate, staff have always been friendly and helpful.
Have a great holiday in September, sure you will see some changes since your last visit but hopefully like us you will still feel the charm of the place.
