Had a good meal at O Branco last night including sea bass - mine of significant proportions! and Planalto plus coffee for a bill of 48 Euro. Very pleasant service and people- eat in inside or out. It is about 5 mins from Carvoeiro - if you leave up the hill with the sea on the left up to Monte Carvoeiro then left, down the hill and keep going it is on the left just before you join the road from Sessmaries to Lagoa. Worth a trip.

I agree Peter. O Branco is probably one of the best kept secrets in Carvoeiro.

The food is great and freshly cooked, none of the microwaved processed stuff you find elsewhere. The prices are, as you point out, very reasonable and the service is great, although the service might be stretched if this " best kept secret" becomes too well publicised!!

Couldn't agree more with the previous comments. This restaurant is a very short walk from our villa in QDP, and our main concern was that we were the only people dining during the 3 times we ate there at the end of May. Hope that it is getting busier as the season progresses, since we don't want to lose it. The food is excellent, and you can buy a quality bottle of wine for under 10 euros. It is run by Innish (not sure about the spelling), and her chef, and although she appears quiet, if you make the effort to talk to her she is very friendly. If anyone visits and finds it busy, please report back.

Having passed this place many times, its never seemed inviting nor well occupied (often a sure sign of quality). However, based on the few comments here, I gave it a try last night and, well, it certainly lived down to my expectations.

The food was competent standard Portuguese fare. Service attentive and friendly. Prices only very marginally below touristville in the town, but plastic white tables and chairs did nothing for atmosphere and was kind of in keeping with the very ordinariness to be found here.

Well exactly Barry.

But apart from the "lived down to my expectations" comment, culled from one of Michael Winner's columns prior to his hospitalisation, e-richards comments are really Winner-speak for "this restaurant isn't too bad".

Nothing negative about the food, apart from the fact that it is Portuguese.

Prices are good in relation to touristville in the village.

Service attentive and friendly.

What more could you want?

The only thing I find puzzling is why e-richard would want to eat the white plastic tables and chairs, when there is some excellent local food on the menu !!

Your interpretation of my comments is spot on.

I was simply trying to offer a balancing view to the somewhat (in my opinion) overly gushing reviews above.

I'm not sure how to take the analogy with Mr Winner - should I be flattered or insulted?

and I am pretty sure that the "lived down to my expectations" comment predates Winner by a number of decades.

By the way white plastic chairs can be quite appetising - in the right circumstances

I'm assuming e-richard ate outside, which we did not. Inside we found it spacious and comfortable compared with many restaurants in "touristville". It is not L'Orange or Ele & Ela's, but perfectly acceptable for an inexpensive Portuguese meal. We just want it to survive!
