opposite tia ilda

Does anyone know what the restaurant opposite Tia Ilda is called? It overlooks the sea. Is it any good/is it expensive? I think the menu has more typical Portuguese food on it.

I think you may mean O'Boteco, up the hill on the sea side of the road. Sadly the food is awful and expensive, but the views are fab.

No...not that one...it's literally opposite. I misled a little, it doesn't actually overlook the sea...more the beach I guess...ooooh maybe I'm dreaming...?

The only thing 'opposite' Tia Ida is the sea wall! Castelo then perhaps - but it's now an Indian restaurant.

Assuming you are on the right hand hill facing the sea about half way up and just past Rascals (not to be missed!). Then the restauraunt you mean is Martins Grill and can be accessed from the hill or from the square. Hope this helps.

Hi Lizzie, we have eaten at Martins grill, so if it is this one the food is good and the prices are ok, about an average for the town. Sitting looking over the square is lovely at night but with the 'smell' that seems to be lingering I don't know what it would be like now.

This was an excellent, inexpensive restaurant when Martin ran it. He was a Dutchman with a great sense of humour. We have tried it twice since he departed, but were disappointed both times, and have no plans to return (unless it changes hands again!)

Hi Lesley,
Sorry for the slow response, it's been too hot and sticky in UK house to do much computering. Wish we were back at the villa! Martin must have left over a year ago, since we visited Easter 2005 with my daughter and children and even the kids meals were poor. And they're not that critical! Hope it improves eventually, otherwise it's a waste of a great location.
