FINDING MY DREAM
As I laid paper in my grate to start a fire yesterday here in the Algarve, I came across an old article in the Algarve Resident which I thought that I would like to post and therefore share with everybody..namely because whilst the article is some 6 months old it's contents of course are not:-

Finding my dream
I am writing to your newspaper as I am considering relocating to the Algarve and want some advice on what I need to think about before making such an important decision. Everyone in the UK has given me good advice but I am still unsure.
When considering a major upheaval, particularly moving to another country, you need to be very honest with yourself about your motives. It’s important to ask yourself whether you are leaving to get away from problems or just want to enjoy a better quality of life. If you’re hoping problems will disappear just by moving, think again. If you are sure your motivation is a positive one, ask yourself: How will I find work or otherwise occupy my time? What emotional consequences will there be in moving: for instance loss of close friends, homesickness etc. What can I live without and what things will I miss the most? Do your research by buying books on the Algarve and find out as much as you can from sources such as the internet, library, and friends. Take out local newspaper subscriptions to get a flavour of Portugal. Take trips out here and ask questions. When you feel really comfortable that you have enough information on which to base a good decision, do so. Portugal is a great country and has so much going for it but it has a very different culture from the UK so take your time in deciding. Good luck!

I would if I may like to add to this....many on this forum have got "first hand" and therefore "real" experience of living/working and/or purchasing in the Algarve...so anyone out there don't be shy ask away...I am sure many would be only to pleased to help.
