just reading all about the wonderful "Stepford Wives" place where we all live.....read it here from a golfers pr site......its good to know all is well.....all is well...all is well......you see, if you say it long enough, then you forget all the other problems the Algarve has....... they all go away.....just like the underground water supplies!!
Now pour a glass of wine... sit down..... and read the following very carefully, as if you were polishing your Rolls Royce car for the first time.

Golfers familiar with the stunningly beautiful south coast of Portugal, were not surprised by last year's announcement that Vilamoura's Victoria Golf Club would be the venue for the 2006 World Golf Championships -- Algarve World Cup. The news was welcomed, at long last, The Algarve had not only been acknowledged as belonging on the world stage of golf, but was being given a starring role in a major production -- something way overdue and well deserved.
Portugal has long been working on a carefully thought out, pragmatic development of its golfing infrastructure and nowhere is this more evident than on The Algarve, where half of the country's 60 courses are located. Sensitive to the natural beauty of the region, The Algarve resisted the temptation to rush into a haphazard, real estate and tourism driven development, instead giving the priority to environmental concerns, aesthetics and quality. The results, some 40 years after British Open champion and noted course designer, Sir Henry Cotton, built The Algarve's first course at Penina, are remarkable and provide a lesson that others might learn from.
With an abundance of high quality courses, all readily accessible, one to the other; a climate ideally suited to playing golf year round and a laid back, easy going, resort-like atmosphere, it was a foregone conclusion that The Algarve was destined to be the Portugal's golfing capital, a title the region has confidently assumed. It can only be a matter of time before it takes the same accolade for all of Continental Europe. The fact that Portugal also offers one of the best values for money to be found in Europe today, just adds extra icing to the cake.
The Algarve's 30 courses are draped like a pearl necklace along 90 miles of Atlantic washed coastline, extending from the historic port town of Sagres in the west to the Spanish border. It's one of the prettiest coastlines in Europe, made up of innumerable small bays, inlets, coves and pristine golden beaches. It's a picture-postcard setting beneath a brilliant blue sky where temperatures never stray below 60 degrees in the winter and seldom climb above 80 degrees in the summer. Golfing weather just doesn't get any better, no matter what time of year.
It would take a month to play each of the gems of this golfing coast just once, and chances are you don't have that much time, so where to begin? Arrive at Faro Airport and you will be in the very heart of The Algarve, with the heaviest concentration of quality courses and resorts, little more than a ten-minute drive away. If you are in the mood for luxurious surroundings at surprisingly affordable prices, there is no better starting point, but there will be choices to be made.

Well, it is just a load of old publicity waffle aint it? "Balmy year round temperatures"...yer right, I wouldn't call today "balmy" would you?
As for the "pearl necklace" maybe they are just trying to "sex" their image up a bit. I mean it is a bit of a "square" game. They sometimes wear TANK TOPS while they are playing! Mind you I wouldn't like to see most of them in Linford Christie type lycra.
