To be exact

"The Greens have meanwhile said they will be requesting a special session in parliament dedicated to this issue, during which they plan to question the Minister whether rationing will solely affect the resident population, or if golf courses will also be facing water restrictions. "

Not quite the same as 'The Minister is to be questioned' - do you by any chance work for the Daily Mail guest ?

Let us suppose the environmentalists succeed and the golf courses are allowed to deteriorate to such an extent that Portugal loses it's famous reputation - and the golf courses are closed due to lack of business - what do you think will happen? - Will they revert to the nice olive farms with a nice wrinkled Portuguese farmer on his donkey - will they ever!

The golf courses are owned by big businesses - they are not stupid and if they are persecuted in Portugal they will go elsewhere. So now we have derelict land and massive reduction in income, both tourist and tax, to the area - simple answer - build more apartments on the land that was a golf course - now we have a nice concrete jungle resembling some of the less scenic parts of Spain, that will become either a ghost town or an OAP complex every winter.

Originally tennis and now golf have made the Algarve what it is - you may not like golf or golfers much, but have a good think about what will happen without them before shouting too loudly for their removal.
