Best Places for Surfing
Hello all - looking at the area the best place I can see for surfing is just north of Aljezur - but can anyone confirm this and are there places where you can hire a board?
Thanks

Re: Best Places for Surfing
all around Aljezur is great for surfing Rich, they come from all over the world to surf it
Monte Clerigo, Arifana, Carrapateira & Amado are all very popular surfing beaches, a surfing mate used to take my sons to Monte Clergo and Arifana, they're great because the beaches are huge o the non surfers can chill or play games,
Amado is popular with the surf schools but we only went there once so can't really comment
Aljezur & Vale de Telha have surf shops, google them & you'll find some hire shops, & you'll probably need to hire wet suits too
when the waves are huge round that side the surfers go South, along from Sagres, there's quite a 'surf hub' in Salema, opposite Parque do Floresta
have a look, if you need more detail give me a shout, I have a couple of surf regulars I could ask

Thanks sunman - I'll have a look around.
To the other 2 who responded, it's for my daughter and her boyfriend - and I would look better on a surfboard than you 2 mongrels!

Mmm Rich you will be careful won't you? Oxiderce (not the place of a similar name inland before Lagos) just past Aljezur is the best place for surfing, it has a fabulous beach and river inlet. Its about an hours drive past the wind farms, a great day out.

Don't worry yourself, my little chick-a-dee, there is no danger of me doing anything more dangerous than having a pint whilst other, more adventurous members of my family throw themselves into the surf on a bit of plastic.tricky wrote:Mmm Rich you will be careful won't you? Pictures of me in a wetsuit are part of my private collection and hence only available for a considerable price

My som & his wife hired all the kit and had lessons at Carrapateira and had a great time. They booked through the surf shop in Lagos and were picked up at the shop by Land Rover making it much easier to get there. I'm sure the shop has a web site that a search should find.

Thanks Farol - was that Extreme Algarve by any chance? - it looks like they do something similar so it would be good to get an idea if they offer good service.Farol wrote:My som & his wife hired all the kit and had lessons at Carrapateira and had a great time. If go into Sagres and go to the traffic circle (where you turn right to go to Cabo de Sao Vicente or straight ahead to the Fort, go towards the Fort. Take the first right turn and go to the end (about 200 m) there is a good surfing beach there. Boards can be rented in Sagres.

Totally agree bugsey, at least twenty riders out there on my last visit, decent sized waves too. Don't need a storm to get waves there, just the Atlantic rollers.

On Saturday 28th it's the Arrifana beach festival. There's surfing lessons, yoga, music, massages... Not sure if you can see the poster but here is the Facebook link: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid ... =1&theatermaccasa wrote:Was at Arrifana yesterday - wonderful surfing.
