Walk, Mon 25th March: Paderne Castle Trail
Walk, Mon 25th March: Paderne Castle Trail
So far the weather looks promising for Monday. Fingers crossed.
Meet at 10:00 a.m in Paderne at the small health centre car park between the cemetery and football stadium. Coming into Paderne on the N270 from the Albufeira end (i.e. from the west) the cemetery and the car park are on the right
I propose to follow the circular "PR1 Percurso do Castelo" walk which should take around 2hrs (medium difficulty with no steep slopes or gradients)
All walks at your own risk, and usual caveats about weather.
Any questions, call Mike on 937658245

Re: Walk, Mon 25th March: Paderne Castle Trail
We did our own version two weeks ago, parking under the motorway and taking what seemed like an almost vertical goat path up to the castle ( which is closed ). The views were certainly worth it with the river in flood and the number and variety of wild flowers impressive.
We will do the " official " route one day.

Yeah, I believe that the castle itself can be dissappointing. Perhaps we will admire it from river level.EMM wrote:We did our own version two weeks ago, parking under the motorway and taking what seemed like an almost vertical goat path up to the castle ( which is closed ). Brian repoprts that :
" Thirteen of us yesterday and although there was a little drizzle we didn't get wet. The river at Paderne was in full flood mode, surging by, have never seen it like that. We walked for 2-1/2 hours and then rewarded ourselves with another prato de dia. Next Monday Carol and Willie will likely be doing the two rivers walk and they will post it later this week."
Sounds excellent, very envious....sounds as if these pratos de dias are becoming a habit! Brian's photos herewith:

Looks as though you had a good walk. We tried this walk out last September and did enjoy it but we were a bit put off by the traffic noise from the motorway for much of the walk, until the castle hill comes between you and the motorway for the latter part of the walk. Not much water in the river when we were there - would be interesting to see it now!

Hi Alison.....haven't seen you on a walk for a long time....coming out in May at all?.....anyway, ref above, surprised there were enough cars on the motorway to make any noise, it was all very quiet when we wee there last ( Jan & Feb).bit put off by the traffic noise from the motorway
