Lanterna

Post by sunman »

had a trip down memory lane with some friends last night & went to Lanterna, (Old Antonio's for those that can remember that far back); founders of the original 'restaurant hill menu' it was a delight to see nothing much has changed, including the family running it; their flambee prawns were great, we had 1 between 2 as they were about €13 a throw but the prawns were big & plentiful, the hot juice delicious when mopped up by the garlic bread;
mains were a mix of lovely sliced roast lamb, chicken piri piri & cordon bleu, breaded schnitzel in a tomato sauce; all lovely & washed down with beer & wine; I was going to look what the 'cover charge' was for the bread & cheese but didn't bother when the whole bill came in at just less than €20 a head, great value

a couple of notes; most restaurants had reasonable custom, but punters were sat on the few outside tables, insides were generally empty;
admittedly we ended early but a just after 10pm all the bars were empty, not good

and plod was pacing up and down the hill inspecting parking and insurance chits in the windscreens

If you don't know Xico Ze, they are both on restaurant hill on opposite corners of road leading to the municipal market.
