Just wanted to put a quick post up here to let people know about the new Rotary International charter that has been established locally. It has just been through its first year and looking to grow the membership with like minded indivuals:

PORCHES INTERNATIONAL ROTARY CLUB - ALGARVE WEST

Due to language barriers, many may feel that they cannot participate in Rotary in the Algarve or simply feel uneasy about joining a local Portuguese based Rotary club.

The Porches International Rotary Club Algarve West, is diverse in it makeup of nationalities, with nine countries represented including Dutch, German, English and Portuguese nationals actively involved in its club.


The Porches International Rotary Club Algarve West meet every Thursday at the Vila Vita Parc Hotel:

12.15 - 12.45 Meet & Greet in the Vila Vita Parc Lobby Bar
12.45 - 13.30 Rotary Club Meeting
13.45 - 14.30 Rotary Club Lunch
14.30 - Opportunity to socialise

We would therefore encourage visitors and members who would like to join, to come along and meet us at one of our meetings or events.

Have you resolved the internal disputes and bickering that went on ?

I became a member after this event, but all resolved and in the past. Concentrating on the important issues again. We have 3/4 charity fund raisng events coming up Picnic on the beach at Vila Vita Parc, Golf Competition at Pestana, Christmas Gala, and a few more. Feel free to come to a meeting to hear more.

As a Rotarian of longstanding in England I joined this club and was party to the 'internal disputes and bickering' as aresult of which I, along with several others, was thrown out.
Every club is entitled to run its affairs as thought fit but, as typified in this case by the pseudonym Moneyman and the venue, this club appears to be run by and for wealthy people only, whereas the original concept of Rotary was that it was a club for professional and business people regardless of wealth.
In my previous club money was raised for charity by actions, rather than putting hands in deep pockets, such as helping old people tidy their gardens, provide and maintain a garden of rest at the local childrens hospital, renovate childrens playgrounds etc. - in addition to raising money by events, sponsorship etc. for International Rotary projects.
So, be warned, this is not a typical club in the British sense of Rotary - however each to his own !!

Dear Roy4eyes

This is unfair comment, from my short experience with the club, I have not noticed your observations. Also, you make judgements on me when you do not know me at all, my user name relates to my profession as a financial adviser, I spend of a lot of my time helping others in charity, and I did not join this club for reasons of wealth, I am a member of other clubs for that!

This is charitable organisation and I did not expect these comments here.

I am aware of the reasons for the disputes but do not pass judgements, as far as I am concerned it is in the past, mistakes were made on both sides, roy4eyes I am sure you were not totally innocent or totally wrong.

I am sorry you took my comments as derogatory - I was pointing out that this club operates differently to any U.K. club I have known. Indeed I concluded by saying 'each to his own'.

Furthermore my comments were not personal however you must admit that your name lends itself open to such comments - and I accept that you are a member of other more wealthy clubs. Being a middle income still hard working optometrist, yes I will admit to being envious of your being able to belong to so many clubs

When I recently visited my old U.K. club they could not believe the high fees (which should be for administration rather than charity) charged at Porches.

I did also note the Vila Vita is not the cheapest place to hold meetings

Roy4eyes I note your comments, but to be fair I really do not know what other clubs do or don't do, I am just trying to help others and the Rotary seemed a good way to do this and if I can enjoy a good lunch at the lovely Vila Vita in the process, why not?!

I expect I have made a mistake in advertising the club here, as I had good intentions that have led to a negitive expossure, which as a fellow Rotarian you'd agree is not the spirt of the foundation.
