I'm assuming it was a one of as we both had the same item from the menu. Did I complain? .... no not my style; I either choose to give a place a second chance or not go back.

However when the waiter came to clear the plates he did ask why we hadn't eaten much, and I did tell him. He looked bemused. I did add though that the location was superb, and you're right Matryx, the wine was delicious ( only available from the hotel apparently ).

Would I go back? ... yes, for that second chance.

BTW, it was not just the fish we had which was a) not fresh, b) so overcooked it would bounce, but also the vegetables which were so overcooked the water was literally lying in a pool on the plate.

But as I say, everyone deserves a second chance .................. except perhaps carvoeiro1.

Hi Colana

You are not alone. Mostly the food is very good but I too have had poor meals there, (cold steak, undercooked fish, vegetables overcooked and swimming in water) (and yes I have told Luis). The location is superb and it remains on our list but sadly is a problem with breakins to vehicles in the car park which means we now only go there by taxi. IMO they need to refocus on their mission statement "invest in quality and guarantee the future" and make some changes.

I think you've hit it right on the nail Pickwick, sometimes establishments get a bit complacent and rely on the other features, in this case the location.

But as I say, I will give it a second chance as I'm assuming from previous feedback that what we experienced is not their usual standard.

If you want an alternative try Club Nau on Praia Grande at Ferragudo:

I think it has much more to offer than Rei das Praias.

Hi Farol

Took you at your word and just returned from Club Nau. 2 large shandies, one bellini, one large bottle of water, one hummus, one filo pastry filled with goats cheese and honey, one chicken Caesar salad and one bbq ribs with fries @ €43!!!!!!

Best value & quality lunch we have had in a long time and an even better view than from Canerios beach, water taxi over to Agua Beach Club for €8 return so all in all a fantastic recommendation - thank you very much we will certainly return.

Hi Pickwick,
Where did you get the water taxi from to Aqua Beach club?
We usually drive and it takes ages, sometimes thought about swimming over, it seems so near from Ferragudo beach :D

The last time I used the water taxi it was from the quay right by O Sueste restaurant ( which is also excellent but pricey) - I always thought it was owned by someone involved with the restaurant. It went over to Portimao marina or further along to what was Portimao harbour area.

It can happen to anyone at any restaurant no matter how impressive it is most of the time....
