I purchased the panels from Solergi Mr Lennard Ostrom E Mail lennardo.ostrom@netvisao.pt and I used a company called A & A Villa Maintenance Alan & Aide E Mail alalaide@clix.pt the total cost for the project was 3500 euro

An update on the pool temperature of the pool today 27th September 04 temperature is 24°c. I don’t know if this is usual, the water temperature being pumped into the pool is 28°c.

I have been reading about pool covers and will be investing in one. But what happens if the wind gets up? How easy do they blow away?

Pool covers are a great way of conserving pool temperature. When we visited our villa end May there had been no guests for a while and the pool cover was rolled up on its stand. Water temperature was around 24C. With the cover on overnight the water temperature only falls about 1 degree rather than 4 - 5. AFter three days the pool temperature (sunshine heated only) stayed fairly constant around 28 in the morning and 29 in the afternoon - once or twice going above 30C. Have never had trouble with the wind blowing the cover off the water- if the pool edge has a 'lip' the wind blows over the top and the cover's own weight coupled with water surface tension will hold it down.

Hello Littlelegs.

We have not yet fitted the solar panels, but plan to do so during the winter, as we have clients in the villa until early November. I am planning to buy the panels from Lennard also, who bought a container load from the states a few years ago, and is not the world's most gifted salesman. Not sure who I will use to to do the installation yet. Will keep you posted.

Yeah, but the big question BobT is what is Lennard's receptionist like ?

We've been watching your advice on Pool heaters, and we understand your criteria for choosing sub-contractors may have little to do with their building competence

I used Leanardo for the panels and had them fitted by a fitter, and so far so good if you look at5 my earlier post I have given names + E mail links for both supplier + fitter.

I thaught anyone watching might like an update. On the 31 October 20004 @ mid day pool temprature was 22degrese

is this good.

Sounds a bit chilly to me John! When we were there 1st week of October our pool temperature stayed around 25 Deg C (not heated, night-time cover only). I swam most days but it was bracing to say the least. I could not persuade anyone else to do more than dip toes in (minimum acceptable swin temperature for wife is around 28 Deg C!). As we are returning for Christmas, and getting occasional winter lets, we have arranged for a Heat Siphon pool heater to be installed - will report results in due course.

The outside temprature on the 31st was only 20 dec as it had been raining on ano off over the last few days

I am a fan of the Heat Syphon pool heaters and have run one very successfully for some years. It keeps our pool at 28 or 29 degrees except on the very coldest days.

I have been looking around at the best deals for a Heat Syphon for my new villa and discovered that Solambiente had an extremely good offer. I believe that this runs to the end of December subject to availability. I have placed my order and for anyone considering such a heater it is worth checking out.

I can recomend Solar Safe Pool Covers. You get 6 to 8 deg C increase in temp, and you don´t need any fancy heating or panels. Just the cover doubles your pool usage season. www.solarsafepoolcovers.com

Hi I just wondered how the solar panels were doing on heating the pools - have they worked well only we have to decide whether to buy a heat pump or go for the panels. any info appreciated
