Odd Sayings

Can someone please explain to me, the whereabouts of certain sayings. For example.......Pissed as a newt (I've never seen one pissed) Drunk as a skunk( thought they were all sober) Sleeping like a log (never heard them snore) Daft as a brush (why is a brush daft?) Daft begger (why are beggers daft?) Raining cats and dogs! As for Rat arsed.......What's that all about? Explanations Please!!!

Both the Newt, and the Skunk are what we call Dedicated Drunks...

They pick up thier Booze at the "Package Store", head home, and get plastered there.....no one knows they are doing it...no arrest record...(and doin't ask me what they do there)

Sleeping like a log (never heard them snore) .

Of course you haven't.....
Logs don't snore...( that's why Lady Logs love them)..

Or you go to sleep too early.

That's a Theological Question,

But my best guess is......

God loves Cats and Dogs, but after he looks their records, he sends most of them to the Bad Place....

(Earth is in the way, so he sends them back as Rain, and they make their way to the Bad Place through the the Drain Pipe.).

As for Rat arsed......

Need to ask someone else about that.

Didnt rats use to run up miners trouser legs.years ago,looking for a safe bolt Hole? (maybe thats where that saying came from)!!!!!
