Health and Safety (gone mad as usual)
We were having a long chat with Carla in A Gale the other week and I happened to mention how nice the table decoration was. It's a small bamboo plant in water with just small leaves if you haven't been to A Gale. Carla went on to explain that under H&S rules, you are no longer allowed to put fresh flowers on the tables in case an insect or creepy crawly creeps out and startles the person sitting at the table or if the same person suffers from hay fever. I was astounded by this level of correctness and sure enough, other restaurants were either using nothing or silk flowers, how long as this been going on, absolutely barmy. Carla was kind enough to give me one of the plants which is now on our kitchen window sill along side some fresh flowers and reminds us of all the nice meals we had in A Gale.

Unless the EHO /H & S out there are adopting a more stringent interrpretation of the legislation, I understand it is a recommendation advocate rather than a legislative point.

Taking this to its logical conclusion. Can we now expect the end of all al fresco dining? Can you imagine being sat outside in a restaurant's garden and being frightened by a spider!Mike,Chislehurst wrote:.....Carla went on to explain that under H&S rules, you are no longer allowed to put fresh flowers on the tables in case an insect or creepy crawly creeps out and startles the person sitting at the table or if the same person suffers from hay fever. ...

Maybe the food itself will be the next to go - just in case there might be an invisible bacteria in it or a human hair!
