ROCK FESTIVAL at PARC ALGARVE

Post by EMM »

**********, We are never over when something really eaciting happens.

5-8 August there is a big festival at the new Motor parc, Snow Patrol Anastacia, Sugarbabes, James Morrison, Simple Minds
plus, plus plus.

There are day tickets, group tickets, 4 day tickets.
This could be the biggest thing to happen in the ALGARVE in years.

Are we ******* or what.

As nearby residents are already up in arms re the noise from the car/bike events I wonder what they'll make of this on their doorstep!

Thank goodness it's miles away

I admit the noise must be awful to those living where the wind blows the noise towards them Kteee, but wow what opportunities for those to see these bikes, and live music etc.
I fully admit I would be a nimby if I lived there, but as I do not I can only apologise for the noise. But hell I wish I was able to get over and see some action, motorbike racing, music live or whatever andwhenever it is on.

It's a pity it has to be at the expense of people who chose to live in a quiet area, far from the hustle and bustle of the tourist areas

Those of us who have chosen to live fairly close to the centre of carvoeiro or any other busy resort, can't complain about music (we can hear the bands playing at fatacil etc), drunk tourists walking past shouting or singing at all hours of the night, but I feel really sorry for the people who had this dumped on their doorstep - not just the noise but the increased traffic and inconvenience.

Is it worth it for James Morrison and the Sugababes? I don't think so, and as for the motor sports - I'd rather poke my eyes out and barbecue them. We're all supposed to be 'greener', use less fuel, walk rather than use the car for short journeys - where does F1 etc fit into that? Big business wins again - one rule for them and the rest of us are made to feel guilty for taking a plane journey to go on holiday - the hypocrisy makes me sick

I agree I would hate to live close to the Parc as well and I do have sympathy for those who bought certainly in the last 5 years and where not told by their estate agents/solicitors and so on who new it was going to happen.

But is there now, it will get bigger, it will host more events like this one, it will attract visitors and money to the ALgarve.
One thing did disturb me about the headline in the RESIDENT it said " FOREIGN RESIDENTS PROTEST ABOUT NOISE FROM PARC ".
What are the views of the Portuguese or are they just happy to get work.

I'd be careful of taking newspaper headlines as gospel - the article states the meeting was held in several languages including Portuguese

Just because it's there doesn't mean I have to rejoice - and it doesn't mean they will see any of my money

I feel sorry for the people who have lived in the area for many years, expecting a peaceful life/retirement - and I don't know anyone affected, they just have my sympathy

As a resident from the area i can assure you the local Portuguese residents are equally concerned as us foriegn residents.
we purchased our plot/house in 2000 have finally got the place as we would like - to enjoy our retirement when it arrives.

This has now been totally affected by this park- i myself am a music lover and have no objection to the concert provided they are not on a regular weekly basis.

My immediate concern is the continual drone from the car track 7 days per week- with races/testing etc again I appreciate that these places have to be built somewhere but feel that not enough has been done in terms of sound barriers etc and would like to see some restriction in the hours of use.

However this would appear to be the least of my problems as i understand from the blog associated with the newspaper article there are too be 2 further developments in the area.

1 Film studios /Theme park
2 Airport large enough for budget carriers ie runway 2.5 k in length- if the proposed site is correct the end of the runway will be approx 2 miles from Monte Canelas and we would be directly on the flight path.

I personally do not know if these proposals are fact or fiction but they are extremely worrying as if the airport site is correct we will be totally stuffed - unable to enjoy our property and unable to sell.

If any forum members have any further info it would be appreciated.

The airport story is something I just don't get because Faro can't possibly be running anywhere near maximum capacity after the extension a few years ago, so why on earth would anyone consider placing another airport within 80Kms?
