Wine

Can anybody help?
Whilst in Carvoeiro last June we came across a lovely wine called Planalto, I have tried everywhere in the the UK to buy it but as yet no joy. Does anybody know of a wine importer in this country that I could try? I have tried the internet but again no joy.
I hope somebody can help otherwise I'll just have to come back again this year.

The word planalto means plateau, and the wine you are looking for is almost certainly Planalto Mirandes - a Douro - from the Trás-os-Montes district, up river near the Spanish border.
I have the names of two regional labels: Quinta dos Bons Ares and Tavedo.
I don’t know if or where you will find it outside Portugal………..but is it worth it? It’s sure to taste better here! chin chin

Digger is absolutely correct. I know the wine and it is an excellent choice but on many occasions I have brought this very wine back to the UK and on each occasion have been disappointed.
It might be that it is better to enjoy the experience in Portugal and leave it there, but having said that it still remains one of our favourite wines.
Incidently there is a lovely beach restaurant further up the coast towards Faro called Evaristo where it is possible to moor your boat and the restaurant send a large dingy to collect you.
One day one of those huge yachts anchored nearby at the same time as we were enjoying some good food washed ndown with a bottle of Planalto.
I asked who were the owners of the yacht and the waiter told me it was owned by the people that own the wine we were drinking and that they had another yacht similar also.

I don't know if it's any help - not sure where you are based- But there is an excellent little portugues supermarket in Camden Town on Plender Street. They sell a lot of Pt wine that you can't get in the supermarkets. I don't know Planalto but they might either have it or be able to get it. I assume they just go home once in a while and load up a van. They also do portuguese cheese - only place you can find it after waitrose wimped out! AND you stand at the counter and have a bica and a pastel de nata. AHHHHHHHH!
Failing that a trip to Golborne Rd in ladbroke Grove is worth a while there's a supermarket there (like the old Maria Teresa's - you old ones will know what I mean!!) and of course the cafe Lisboa - best pasteis de nata outside of Belem HONEST!.
Sorry can't give exact details on the wine - more of a cake girl myself

Evaristo is where Figo and Beckham (or backhome as he is known in our house!) went for dinner after the Portugal/England game. It is a fave haunt of the Portugese jetset (well, that's what they think they are, coitados) during the summer.

So, hob nobbing with the likes of Figo are you? Praia do Evaristo IS where the beautiful people go. You can moor your big luxury motor yacht in the bay and the restaurant send a small boat to pick you up.

I went one summer but when I got stripped off the beach cleared.

How did we get off the Planalto topic??

You can get to Evaristos restaurant by car but its not easy to find.
Personally I prefer to anchor up my motor yacht in the bay and use the rib pick up facility from the restaurant.
Usually have to book it days in advance in the summer

are there any directions you could give me, don't have a boat. and is it suitable for children (i.e. are they welcomed?)

It is a great place for children, nice blue flag beach too. As it says on their page there is no menu, you just pick out what fish you want. They do some meat dishes too, but the fish is their speciality.
