WALK ON 18TH MARCH: ALVOR ESTUARY FROM MEXILOHEIRA STATION

I have been asked to organise a walk for 18th March and it will be a nice easy (and popular) one! - walking to Alvor Marsh on the 'high' road from Mexiloheira Grande Station, around the lagoon, then back to the station along the lower road.

It is an easy walk, ranked 1 on our scale and takes 2-2.5 hrs depending on the birds on view at the lagoon. Bring your binoculars if you like birds.

Directions: - on the N125 head west past Portimao, Penina & Figueira. Stay on the N125 until you come to a 'new' roundabout signposted Mexiloheira Grande. Take the third exit off this roundabout and then take an immediate sharp left (signposted to the station, I think!). Follow this road down to Mexiloheira Grande Station where there is abundant parking.

Meet at 9.45 to start at 10am: Normal rules apply. Note, there is no cafe at the station.

If anyone fancies lunch then let me know and we will maybe book somewhere. Last time we did this walk we returned to Carvoeiro and dined at Vimar and this worked well. If there are other ideas for lunch more local to the walk then let me know.

As this is a simple walk with no serious turns then we may well be able to accommodate more than the normal 20 - let us decide when we know numbers.

See you Monday.

We have 16 walkers and 15 for lunch. With the high number for lunch I suggest we resort to plan A and lunch at Vimar back in Carvoeiro - I understand this may not suit everyone and if you wish to reconsider lunch then let me know asap.

It is hoped that ex walkers Rod & Gail will join us for part of the walk (around the lagoon) and for lunch at Vimar.

Well, that must rank as one of the longest Ramblers walks ever!
A nice 2 hr walk (Don has promised to post pic) followed by (at least) a 3hr lunch at Vimar then, a further 4hrs on the roof of Rod & Gail’s place!

Thanks to all who attended - 16 on walk, 15 for lunch and 15 on Rod’s roof. Music (a bit iffy) by Rick!
