Support for Families in the Algarve 24.02.2020
Thank you so much all you lovely walkers for your very generous donations of €307,21 from Geoffs walkers and an additional €35 from Davids Tuesday walkers to “Support for Families in the Algarve,” which Geoff and David Reece passed on to us today. We have a lot going on at the moment and your money will really help. Apart from sourcing and collecting furniture and white goods, which we are continuing to distribute to local needy families, we are also supplying toiletries and cleaning materials to families when then need them and paying for dental treatment for another needy adult, José Miguel. So far he has had 5 bad teeth removed and needs 2 more, plus a filling and a scale and polish. We will then consider whether to pay for false teeth for him too. Already he is feeling so much better and very grateful for the support he is receiving. Our latest venture is to set up a book exchange for needy children, in Guia on a Saturday afternoon. As you may know, children’s books are very expensive here, so children rarely have the opportunity to read a book for fun. The most popular seems to be “Diario de um Banana” (Diary of a Wimpy Kid) and the “Princessas Secretas” series, being enjoyed by the younger girls. Your last donation has gone towards buying 20 books in both series. Now we shall also be able to buy underwear for needy children of all ages. We collect lots of children’s clothes but it is so much nicer to be able to give new underwear, rather than second or third hand. Hopefully we have managed to add a photo of Su receiving your donations from Geoff and David and a photo of José prior to his treatment. Thank you so much for your support, we are very, very grateful, Su & Mike Davis
