The walk starts from Café Sociedade Recreativo at bhe bottom of the hill from the village of Figuiras. It is approximately 11kms, therefore 2 1/2 hours, although it is long there are not many hills. We start the walk by the side of the river and then walk at the side of a levada. Then we head out into the countryside, cross a small river and cut through the pretty village of Poio. Towards the end we head through the village of Figuiras where we can enjoy refreshments at one of the cafes. Then it is downhill back to the cars. There is a short vertiginous stretch uphill, but this can be avoided if necessary. and there is uneven ground at the side of the levada, and a short scramble near a pig farm. There are some stretches walking on tarmac. This is a grade 3, medium.The usual rules apply: wear suitable footwear and clothing and bring a drink, poles if you have them. There is no charge and you walk at your own risk. There is no cafe at the start of the walk. For those wishing to stay for lunch we plan to try the Cafe Tic Tac across the other side of the N125. It has new owners so we will be testing out their new menu which is within our 10 euros budget.

Meeting time: 10:00am Directions: Drive West along the N125 past the Alvor turning and the Penina Golf, after approximately 2kms go under a footbridge and immediately turn right into Figuiras at the sign "Polidisportivo". Ignore the first sign for Figuiras. Park just past the Cafe Sociedade Recreativo Figuerense. Linda and Russell will be leading this walk whilst Geoff is away in the UK. On another glorious sunny day, 8 remainers and 3 dogs headed out from Figeira into the open countryside. For the first time this winter we encountered huge puddles and flowing river crossings. Not to be deterred we splashed through all the water and mud with the sun beating down on the backs of our necks. We set a good pace of 5kms per hour so had time to relax at the chill out zone near Poio village. We headed back over the A22 and down into the village of Figeira where we enjoyed refreshments at one of the cafes. Then back down to the cars, having completed 11.6kms. We then drove to Malheiro, the only restaurant open doing a prata do dia. Six of us enjoyed lunch al fresco whilst getting a sun tan. Russell and Linda would like to wish all the ramblers a Happy Christmas.

Looks like another chance to get envious...I've forgotten what blue sky looks like!

11.6km at 5kph is good...but the track record says 3h14m19s so perhaps someone forgot to turn it off? Ascent, 65m. Looks a good lunch venue.
