Exploratory Walk : St Georges Day....something different
Posted: Mon Mar 28, 2011 12:11 pm
Hi all
That's saturday 23 April if you weren't too sure!
Last time we were out in Portugal, we picked up a free guide to some walks, issued by the Silves Tourist Office. Only problem, is that they are only published in Portuguese , and some of the directions leavde a bit to be desired BUT the walks are actually ( generally) well marked. We started exploring one , but it was too late in the day to complete it , so we need to thoroughly explore it again , before we can add it to our itinery of walks.
So, if anyone is free on saturday 23 April and fancies joining us, they will be more than welcome. We can't promise that we won't get a bit lost, but the walk is circular, starting in a tiny village that does have at least 1 cafe. I suspect that the duration will be nearer 3 hours than 2 , so it might be an idea to bring some sandwiches as well as some water.....and walking boots, stout trainers : walking pole recommended. There will be some steep slopes, but not long ones. We know the general location and the views are gorgeous.
Directions : drive from CVO to Silves , go over the bridge and turn right and follow the N124 for about 4 miles until you see a turning on the left signposted " Barragem do Arade 3 klms".......the signpost is in a small triangular traffic island , which has a large palm tree on it......for a picture of this point see: http://www.carvoeiro.com/Guide/barragem
It would be simplest to meet here at 0945.....the start of the walk is another 5 minutes drive away, but it would be best to follow us !
If any intrepid explorers would indicate below if thwey would like to come, we would look forward to your joining us.
Any problems/queries, please ring 282 380015 before 0900 on the day ( we will be in Portugal from 19 April if you want to call us).
