Walk Monday 31 Jan 2022; Montes de Cima. CLOSED
Walk Monday 31 Jan 2022; Montes de Cima. CLOSED
Walk is now closed.
We haven't done this walk for 2 years. We did a recce of the first part of the walk today. It is a bit overgrown in places, I suggest you don't wear shorts but bring a pole. The walk is about 2.5 hours and includes one quite steep hill and a few other ups & downs.
Fortunately, the Honey Cafe is now open on a monday!
Start : 1000....but 0945 of you want a coffee
Degree of difficulty ( scale 1:5) : 3, Energetic.
Lunch:this is optional, but we will be going back to O Tasco , an old favourite, but where we haven't been for some time. The standard Prata de Dia there is now 10€ but only includes a limited choice of main dish ( fish fillets of pork fillets today, but it changes daily) . With tip expect to pay about 11€ or 12€ pp.
Directions: From Lagoa, coming from CVO, turn left on the N125 and go past the turn-off for Alvor. After a few hundred yards, there is a BP station on your right and a road signposted " Senhora do Verde, Vidigal, Casais, Alcalar, Torre" : turn right here. IF you go past the Hotal Penina on your left, you have gone too far
Go up this road ( M532). After going through a single lane tunnel and after about another 1/4 mile, make sure you follow the road bending left signed Alcalar ; do NOT go straight on.
You should then soon be crossing the motorway. Carry on, passing A Taberna Nicola cafe on your right, and Cafe Andre a bit later on your left. Carry on past O Tasco, on the left. Just past O Tasco, bear left and follow the Monchique sign. About 5 minutes after O Tasco, you will see a building on the right that used to be a cafe bear left here ( signposted Montes de Cima, Marmalete, Casais ) and drive on for about 3kms till you get to Montes de Cima. Follow the road round to the right to the cafe Taberna da Manel ( Honey cafe) ; park opposite, or a bit further up the road. Please do not park just outside the cafe.
Map reference : 37.241448, -8.611435
Usual caveats: all walks are at your own risk, and we do not walk if it is pouring with rain.....I will endeavour to put any cancellation note on this site by 0800 on the day of the walk.
Walking boots/stout trainers , walking pole(s), hats and water recommended. No charge, of course.
Please also advise if you change your mind about coming, as there may be a waiting list.
Any questions , please ask below or PM me or ring 282 380015 preferably between 1800-1900.
Numbers will be limited, so it is essential to respond below if you want to come. Please also state whether you will want lunch .

A full 20 on the walk, 17 for lunch, walk about 2.5 hours, beautiful weather, up a hill....
The cistus was quite high, but manageable....at the top:
It was quiet...no cars!
The O Tasco did us proud , chicken p-p or pork in the oven.....with wines, puddings, coffees, all for 10€ still;
