Martins Kulinarium

Post by rod... »

Anyone tried this place as yet? Martin and Anette have opened up in what might have been Estrela do Mar (spelling?). Directions - if you go to the top of restaurant hill past A Rede and Vimar, take the first left and continue on for 400m. It just sits on the corner. When we were there, their new sign had not yet been delivered. They open at 1pm, but I cannot recall when they reopen in the evening.

We went along on the Monday night a couple of weeks ago and found out that is their day off (doh!), so visited for lunch the next day. I believe they used to have a place further inland and Martin is passionate about the quality of his produce. I would suggest this restaurant would appeal to gourmet diners, as the menu was quite different from most others in the area. Prices were good though.

Anyhow, my wife wasn't really too hungry and just ordered a tomato and mushroom omelette, only to receive what is the best omelette I have ever tasted, served up with delicious Monchique tomatoes.. I had a selection of the tapas dishes to go with the crusty bread and the to-die-for rosemary and lemon butter. Superb food with lots of flavour and to quote Martin's blurb, "life is too short to eat bad". I would tend to agree.

Certainly worth the walk in you are in the area.

Is it still Estrela do Mar or have they renamed it?

As a resident at Carvoeiro Mar, judging by the number of cars parked up every day, it's doing pretty well even without the sign! Logicbob they've renamed it.

Catchy.
Does that mean it's a culinary extravaganza?

Do you know if the telephone number is the same as when it was Estrela do Mar so that I can change it on the CVO map?
