Chrissy's - a Taste of Quality
HampshireRich is back from holiday, and as such will give my opinion of 3 restaurants for you perusal and delight.
Firstly is Chrissy's in Lagoa:
Chrissy’s is a small, stylish restaurant situated in a small square along a quaint cobbled street in Lagoa. That is the best directions I can give you as we were driven from the pool bar in Monte Carvoeiro to the restaurant and back again.
The building itself reminded me of those elegant Edwardian or Victorian buildings in UK cities that have now been made into offices – the first floor has very high ceilings, with ornate coving and large windows. The furniture is comprised of stylish wooden chairs and each table with sparkling clean tablecloths and place settings. However, you do not go to a restaurant just for the style – you go for the food and value for money. It is here where Chrissy’s is a slight contradiction.
Firstly, the menu has a fixed faire for most of the year but supplemented by different weekly “specials”. All of this will be at a fixed cost – 34.95euros for 3 courses and as much house wine and coffee as you can drink. An extra course will increase the price to 39.95euros. Speaking to the owners, if 2 courses only were required, then the cost would be reduced accordingly (up to 10euros I think I was told). Whilst this fine if there are 2 or 3 adults for a special evening, the cost obviously can be less value if there are children (who would not drink a couple of bottles of house wine!) or even if there is just 1 person paying for 4 people. (I think I've got the prices correct - if not, apologies).
However, a restaurant needs good food, expertly cooked and first class service. This is where Chrissy’s excels. The food is cooked to order, using fresh ingredients, presented beautifully and served on quality plates. (If you are a big eater, then maybe not the best place to go, but for myself (a big 17 stone fella) it was a comfortable amount.). All 3 courses were extremely tasty – the wine flowed and a good time was had by all – and the staff were extremely friendly and very efficient.
2 things to bear in mind – this is not a t-shirt and shorts restaurant – smart wear would be appreciated (jeans are OK) – and when we went on Wednesday it was fairly quiet, and therefore if were just the 2 of us rather then 5 it would have been too quiet – check if you book as to the popular days. Speaking to Louie and Debbie who now run the restaurant, they are keeping to the previous owner’s style for the immediate future for those who have visited before and liked it.
I personally liked the restaurant and the food – it is a place to go for a special occasion, maybe a quiet, romantic evening or if you just want a bit of quality – although I could not afford it every night!

My wife and I recently visited Chrissy s and the meals were excellent. My only comment is that we do not like the included wine and buy a bottle of our liking.
I am suprised that there is no allowance made for not drinking the house wine.

As a fan of the old, I never thought that the new owners of Chrissy's would pull it off...but they have!!
The food is every bit as good, if not better, than it ever was, and I didnt even miss the Belgian madame, (she always reminded me of a grumpy Belgian Ellie!!! )
Our meal of 3 courses plus tasters was superb, and my belief that even a half decent restaurant would always have a decent house wine was more than borne out....so why spend more??
Last time we went to Bela Vita at Clube Atlantico, we found the food ,though excellent, was getting just a bit too pricey.
The food at Chrissys easily matches that, and at 35 or so euros including wine and coffee, surpasses that excellent restaurant in value for money.
