Strange smell in the air

Has anyone else noticed the strange sweetish smell in the air early mornings? Is it wood fires somewhere?

I don't know where you're located but I know that the smoke produced by the cork factories is very sweet, at first it seems quite pleasant but after a while it becomes very sickly sweet & cloying.

You have just rescued me from madness. That smell has been around for years - at first I thought it was a particular form of coffee but on Friday night when we walked up the hill towards Monte Carvoeiro it was a distinctive but not unpleasant smell of burning - but nonetheless familiar

It was partic stong yesterday during the day - if it is the cork factory I guess that makes sense as now is the picking/bottling time

THe factory is just outside of Silves .

We have noticed in many places around CVO that the drains are particulrly strong at the moment maybe someone is burning garden waste to mask a local problem.??

IN august the stench of sewers half way up restaurant hill (near Barclays) was dreadful. But I could only smell it for about 30 yards, then it disappeared. Definitely not anything other than sewage smell though

The smell is not sewers and it is not unpleasant. We used to think it was people across the road brewing coffee early in the morning. Then we moved to the other side of town and the 'smell' is here too

No - its been around for a long time now and I doubt whether the aroma of your suggestion would waft to Vale do Milho at 4.00am (the most common time for this occurrence)
