heating the pooll with a heat pump system

has anybody recently had a heat pump system installed?i have had a few quotes but they seem very high.i can buy a heat punp system in the uk for 1/2 of the prices i have been quoted in portugal!!!!

I had an electric heat pump installed in 2006. The cost was 7500 euro's for a 10 by 5 meter pool. This included the installation cost. Without a pool cover the pump struggles to maintain 26 degrees in November to February, but during September, October, March & April it extends the swimming season significantly.

The running costs are probably 50 euro's per week in electricity plus the depreciation on the pump at 30 euro's a week assuming it lasts 5 years.
Plus of course the cost of capital at 5% over 5 years @ 7 euro's a week.

So, it really depends how often you're going to use it as to how much it's really going to cost, and if you buy a cover, which i suspect, would reduce the running costs substantially.

Get a load of old central heating radiators, paint them black or dark green and then position them so they are facing south and angled towards the sun. Create a heat exchanger which could be a simple as coiling a feed from the radiators around a pipe in the filtration system. Attach a small pump to circulate the water through the radiators and you have a low cost solar heating system. I've seen this working extremely well in quite a large pool in Devon, so I imagine that even in the winter months it would work in Portugal if you have a good thermal cover.

fitted a Calorex 29 heat exchange pump earlier this year. Purchased in the UK for the reasons you stated. Ftted by Mr Cool. Total success. Here (Carvoeiro) until next Tuesday if you want to see.

there is a company in spain(see below)that supplies&delivers to portugal&if you read below i dont think that the price is too bad.go on their web site to look.i have asked colin to let me know how much he paid for installation when he had a heat pump installed that he had shipped to portugal

We had a Calorex fitted last year, hasn't worked properly since & for some reason the company we used seemed loath to or incapable of doing anything about sorting it out.

I'm afraid I don't want to say just at the moment as they have promised to sort it out now, mind you that was nearly 3 weeks ago & we've heard nothing since, but I would still like to give them the chance to sort it out as they have been very good with everything else that we purchased through them. Maybe just do a bit more research if you're considering Calorex, others might have had a more positive experience with them.
