Christmas Dinner

Can anyone advise me where to have christmas dinner this year. Our apartment is in Portimao, very close to Alvor, Praia da Vau and Praia da Rocha. We do tend to visit Carvoeiro very often whenever we come over, however, as we will both be drinking, we would prefer a restaurant nearer home.

Sell the apartment in Portimao and move to Carvoeiro....then you can walk, and problem solved.....NEXT!!!

I had the most fantastic christmas dinner ever at Maximes a few years ago. However, that is (obviously) in Carvoeiro.

Thanks for your advice, however it really isn't helpful at all.

I have always been led to believe that people on this forum were really helpful, you Bruce have just shown me that not everyone is.

FMM, I also ate at Maximes a couple of years ago, after lots of recommendations on the forum. I was rather disappointed, it wasn't a bad meal and the service wasn't bad, however all I could say was that it was alright, nothing more.

Hmm - in that case I think you need to purchase your own food and stay at home as Maximes is one of the better restaurants in the area! If you know the area well and have eaten there already, then, to be honest, you already have sufficient information in order to make your choice.

This forum is not only helpful, but also lighthearted. Asking for recommendations where to eat in Portimao on a Cavoeiro forum is obviously going to get you some interesting replies.

You could try Restaurant dos Artistas although it is in Lagos. This restaurant is really special with excellent quality of service and food you will not find anywhere in Carvoeiro. I do not know if they are open on Christmas day but if you are looking for something special you will not be dissapointed and you can easily book a taxi to take you to and from!

If you want to try something really special have a look at this website although you would have to stay overnight, Arola is a fantastic restaurant within a very good hotel near Sintra!

Doesn't mean you can't open your mind to the possibility that Carvoeiro is not exactly the centre of the culinary Universe though. The lady is looking to go out and have their Christmas dinner and plainly there are better restaurants to be found in other places (maybe you should try some of them and broaden your gastronomic horizons a little!!)

Why would he want to broaden his gastronomic horizons when he has a superb cook at home!

Anybody who lives in, or has had a home in Carvoeiro, for the last few years is probably very conversant with the fact that the village isnt the gastronomic hub of the area, and is probably pretty familiar with what is available in the surrounding area of the Algarve, or even further afield.

As Michael has said...the name of the forum should give you a clue. ....and we certain dont need patronising by you Pickwick
