A friend of mine is flying out in a couple of weeks for a walking holiday and is staying at the Carvoeiro Sol. Has anyone stayed there recently and if so what is the accomodation and food like?
Also what is the weather usually like mid May? I thought probably low to mid 70's?
I have been able to give her information on Carvoeiro - but we have always stayed at Rocha Brava.

The past years I have stayed several times (6-7) in the hotel. (but not recently)
The rooms are kept very well clean, the breakfast buffet is o.k. and the staff is friendly and helpfull. I have no experience with dinner, because most of the time I ate at my friends house with his family or in one of the restaurants.
If you have a sea-view room it is nice to have your nightcap at the balcony and watch the people at the square.
Once I had a room at the pool side; you can just jump from your room into the pool.
The advantage of this hotel is that it is in the center and when you have too much eaten in one of the restaurants or drinks in the bars you can roll down the hill to your bed!

Just come back from staying there. We met a large group of walkers who were staying there. They were great fun and they had some fantastic walks. The hotel is clean, staff friendly, the buffet style breckie is ideal for those who wish to eat as little or as much as one wants. We did not have dinner there but preffered to eat out in one of the many restuarants around. They I believe ate in the restuarant for dinner and i am not sure of there general idea of the dinner menu on offer. The happy hour is a great favourite of one and all as it gives the appropriate time and facilities for all at the hotel to meet and have a good drink and lots of fun. A great way to make friends and to see where and what people have been up to !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I recommend the hotel for its location, facilities and friendliness

I agree that the hotel has good location and we found the staff very helpful but it was noisy at night and the early hours with lot of door banging. Didn't think much of the room we had seemed claustrophobic and the breakfast was adequate thats all. but if you want beach on doorstep and all that goes with it fine.

I stayed there last year and aprt from the noisy neighbour it was a really nice stay!
the staff were very helpful and friendly and the fact that its right on the square is really useful.
