Insurance in Carvoeiro

OK. I have had the surveyor round to the elderly property I would like to buy on top of the Vimar restaurant section on the Estrada do Ferol.

I thought that I had the insurance sorted out, then have been told today that the Norwich Union won't insure anything that is over commercial premises (particularly over a restaurant) as when the restaurant catches fire (!) then they will have to pay out for the damage to my apartment.

So - does anyone else have this problem? Most of the apartments I have seen in CVO are on top of commercial premises, so I assume that someone, somewhere would be able to insure me. I would prefer to have an English speaking company if possible, as the chances of my learning sufficient Portuguese in the space of a few months is pretty unlikely.

Thanks once more for any info you can offer.

Hmmm, that's an interesting one.

I can see where they are coming from, but there must be insurance company's who will take this risk.

Can't answer your question, but I am sure there are ppl on here who can point you in the right direction.

Dave.
