A word of warning with reference to the fountain, we have just returned from a two week holiday and twice within this time my four year old along with other children had the clothes ruined by water cleaning solution.As kids do they all round around the courtyard and play with the fountain water unlucky for us the solution was to strong and good clothes are bleached.
Any other parents had this problem I would like to hear.

I'm surprised you let him do it a second time!!

You must appreciate that fountains can spread diseases such as Legionnaires disease and I doubt that the fountain is specifically designed for children to play in. I am glad that they are treating the water, even the chlorine in a swimming pool can bleach clothes.

Alex - I think maybe our 'guest' does not understand that if you put a four year old with another load of four year olds, add hot weather and a nice looking splashy fountain there is only one inevitable outcome

I think you made a fair point (and if it bleaches clothes that well what is it doing to the little one's skin?)

One of the great appeals of the square at Monte Carvoeiro is that it is extremely child friendly, and you do not have to strap your children to their chairs after they have eaten their meal in 3.5 minutes and then want to run around. If the water has such a strong chemical element as you suggest then this view may need to be altered.

I know that at least one contributor to this site has a bar in the square, and I would hope that there is a good explanation - I, and I am sure many other parents, would like to know if this situation is normal before we all pack the litmus paper!
