Not bad. Extra costs you will incur are extra petrol (approx 300kms to Carvoeiro) and approx 40 euros on the tolls for the motorway. A journey that should take between 2.5 and 3 hours.

I have just booked Gatwick to Faro with Monarch and Faro to Luton with EasyJet for a week at the end of May for less than £70 including all the taxes and credit card surcharges. Took a bit of playing around with the dates though I have to admit.

Talk of pilot industrial (in) action at EJ. They met management before christmas but failed to agree. Also EJ are recruiting more pilots for their extended network. Their min flying hrs requirement used to be 1500 hrs but is now 500. Look for the big"L" on the nose as you board.

A journey that should take between 2.5 and 3 hours.

I keep posting this but will again the journey from Lisbon Airport to Carvoeiro took me 2 hours as did the return leg a week later.

Hi MC, Tried to get details of flights to Lisboa from Faro. Where on the site did you get the info?

Cheapest flights todate we have obtained was just before Christmas

Luton...Faro (1 week stay)
£100 for 2 passengers (inc of taxes).

We were thinking of popping over to the UK at the end of Jan/Feb and there was a special offer over I believe 4 days

Faro-Bristol
Bristol-Faro (1 week)
£67 for 2 passengers(inc of taxes)

We have also flown out by Easyjet and come back via Monarch...in order to get the best deals.

BA was most certainly the most expensive, but to be fair I did fly at the last minute to Gatwick last August.

What I can't grasp is why some who are staying in the Algarve are flying in at Lisboa,.....is because it is cheaper and/or from where they are flying from in the UK. I.e you have petrol and tolls to consider driving down from Lisboa
....and Maddi....you must have shifted some to have accomplished the journey in 2hrs via car, or perhapes you were being towed...bumper to bumper by a Portuguese driver

Heathrow to Lisbon BA £197

The cheapest option into Faro is £110 more, for a car with four passengers that is £440 - Petrol and tolls come nowhere near that amount - time lost - well that would always the decision you would have to make.

But that my dear friend is why I started flying into Lisbon (the saving for me last time was actually £200 per person so £800!!)

Sorry MC, somehow I thought you lived in the Algarve and that it was a new flight to Lisboa from Faro.

I might have to look at that one Maddi - Whit is always the worst week if you have children (at least Easter spreads over a few weeks).

I have decided again this year that I have no choice but to let the kids miss one day of school - for the 4 of us, if we go Saturday - Saturday with BA it is £2,448.00. Monday to Monday is £725.00. I think I can just about justify missing 1 school day to save £1,723.00 !

If looking for the best deals, has anyone looked at flying to Seville from the UK. Seville is nearer to the Algarve than Lisboa?

I think the flights to Seville are cheap but then you have to hire a car to drive to Algarve so would it work out any cheaper? dont think theres a train from there?

Sorry, I was assuming that most were hiring cars.

Yes your correct at the moment there is no direct link from Seville to the Algarve by train.....although there are plans in the pipeline for such a connection, but out here of course no one at present knows when this will be...a bus would take about 6hrs and I believe that there is only 1 bus per day.

Graham the price I quoted was BA price today for the Whit week saturday to saturday - Heathrow isn't too bad from Surrey by any stretch of the imagination and they do not lose a day at school and less than £800 for the four of you.

Up to you obviously and it maybe worth losing a day in school for the hour or so each way you save once landing in Portugal. But the price quoted was what you would pay if you booked this afternoon.
