saw the other day in wortens near carvoeiro (so its not chitty chatty) for the first time a HD dvd player...this means of course that sometime soon we will have to throw away all our dvds (so old yuk !!) and replace them with hd-dvds..this was of course only a short time ago after we had "to keep" with the latest and dump all the vhs videos as they were so "old tech".
so its good to know that the recycle bins will be full soon of more electronic stuff

Why do we have to throw away all the old stuff as soon as something new comes on the market? People who do that only fuel the fire because they absolutely must have the latest gadgets. As far as I know the old ones still work perfectly well. I still have all my old vhs videos of my kids growing up and my old video player which works fine. Seems to me to be manipulation of the masses by consent. IMHO, of course.

Of course its marketing but its also a sign of progress.
How many horse and carts do you see around now.
How many prefer oil lamps to electricity.black and white TVs etc
Development and improvement are one of the better aspects of humanity.
The choice is don,t buy something if you don,t need it.

yes but we are given no choice...the commercial system will determine what you buy and when
for example I used to be a dist for Ampex professional video (they invented in the 1950s the worlds first video recorder) and 3M (who came up with the way to make video tape) both firms said that all electronic firms could jump from here..............................................................................................................................................................................................
to here..in one go ...but they dont ..what they do is get everyone one to buy a product knowing that the next jump in tech is here already.
one fellow I knew had to write a camara manual for jvc..he was disgusted because jvc had only broughtin 150 of these into the uk..they already had to next model in the warehouse waiting until they "sold out"..then aahh yes sir this is the new model..much better thatn the one you purchased an hour ago.
